Fun times...and not so fun times.

I definitely feel like I've been neglecting my blog, but things have definitely started to ramp up in terms of my schoolwork. In addition, the past few days have definitely been very exciting.

On Saturday evening, we all went down to the Canada Games Oval on the Halifax Commons to skate. For those of you who are unfamiliar, it is a giant oval skating rink. The skate and helmet rentals are also completely free, to make things even better. To be clear, I've been living in Canada for nearly ten years, and have never had on a pair of skates in my life. With a little help from my friends, I managed to get the skates on, and tied, and managed to get to the ice. It started with an "ice aid" which appeared to be an elderly person's walker. With much encouragement from my friends, I slowly, carefully, made my way around the oval. It was somewhat heartening to see many other adults in the same boat as me. On the second pass, we ditched the walker and I managed to skate only holding someone's hand. Finally, on the third lap, I could do it myself. I'm not a good skater by any means, but I'm certainly proud of what I managed to learn over the span of two hours.

Monday night was some more excitement. 22 Minutes, a popular CBC television program is filmed here in Halifax in front of a live audience. I managed to procure six tickets, and me and my friends went to see that. The episode we saw taped was aired last night. It was excellent. There were free glasses of wine, and it was a hilarious show. In between takes, the cast joked with us, and it was a really fun time.

So those were  the fun times. Now it's time for some unfun times.

The weather here is ridiculous. Yesterday, with the windchill, it was -30. Today, it's at least 5. Plus 5. I don't understand it. It's making it difficult to know how to dress to go outside. I don't mind the warm weather, but the unpredictability of it is just outrageous.

Now...finally. Let's talk SOPA. I haven't talked about it yet, but today is the blackout against SOPA. Several sites, notable wikipedia, are shut down today to show what it would be like if SOPA passes. There's also PIPA, SOPA's younger, sexier sister, which is just as bad. If you don't know about SOPA and PIPA, I urge you to go to here, as well as to educate yourself as much as possible. This would change the internet in a drastic, terrible way.

I'll try to write more in the coming days. Also, I'm sorry that there are no pictures. My camera card reader appears to have gone missing. I'll update when I can :)
