Cocoa Powder Dry Shampoo

Mondays are usually my most trying day. I often oversleep, due to crammin work in the night before, and the day itself is jam packed. I have class from 930 until 130, then work from 130 until 430, and then I volunteer from 530 until 11. Then I usually come home and collapse.

This morning was such a morning. I overslept, after staying up until 3 last night with a lab report that just wasn't coming together. I ended up stumbling out of bed at 915. But my hair...oh gosh...it was a wreck. It was an oily greasy mess.

After dressing and brushing my teeth, I was down to nine minutes until I absolutely must be out the door. I had no dry shampoo, and no time to wash my hair with the traditional stuff. Then it struck me. I read once that cocoa powder makes a pretty adequate dry shampoo in dark hair. I happened to have a jar of cocoa, purchased back when I was feeling inclined to bake more. Now, this was a big, untested risk, so I usually discourage experimentation when there's no time to repair the ensuing disaster, but this paid off more than I could have imagined.

I tapped some dark cocoa powder onto a plate, and picked it up with a fluffy powder brush, and dabbed it on my roots. Then I rubbed it in. Instant success! My hair looked noticeably less greasy, the cocoa gave it kind of a nice reddish sheen, and it smelled heavenly.

Snapped this with the webcam...my lovely no name cocoa!

|Of course, it can't be all pros. This is definitely messy. There was some fallout onto my face that I had to take care of before leaving for the day. As well, it dyed my scalp brown. I'm not really complaining, but it did need to be washed quite thoroughly afterward.

My hair looked fine all day, and no one was the wiser. Someone did tell me I smelled like chocolate, which I suppose was a compliment.

Not a bad idea overall. I usually use the No Drought Dry Shampoo from Lush, but they're a good distance away, and with the bus strike, I simply can't make it out there. I don't think the cocoa powder performed nearly as well as No Drought usually does, but in a pinch, it will work for a short time. I'm pretty sure it will hold until I get home from work, and then I'll wash my hair before I crash into bed.

What I usually use...I can review it if you'd like.
I'm on my lunch break currently, so I'll leave you.

I hope you all are enjoying your Monday.
