Friday the Thirteenth

Are you superstitious at all? I know I’m not. It requires a kind of blind faith that I just can\t comprehend. I really wish I could though. It’s interesting. Today I thought I’d do a really fun post, and maybe talk about some superstitions that you know, and maybe some that you didn’t! Here are ten (plus one!) superstitions.

1. Friday the 13 th is bad luck (of course!)
2. Putting a hat on a bed is bad luck!
3. Breaking a mirror is 7 years of bad luck!
4. If a man is the first person to enter your home in a new year, you will have a lucky year
5. Don’t spend money on a Monday or you’ll be poor by the end of the week (that seems like common
    sense)
6. Don’t eat lettuce if you want to have children
7. Don’t wallk under ladders – bad luck
8. Don’t say “Macbeth” backstage at a stage production, or the show is doomed
9. Knock on wood to reverse bad luck
10. Toss salt over your left shoulder for good luck
11. Carry an acorn in your pocket to ward off aging

As for #8, when I was in high school, we did a production of Annie. Backstage, a bunch of the girls thought it would be funny to say Macbeth a few times to see what would happen. The first act went smoothly, but in the second act, the trained dog jumped off the stage, one of the principal actors fainted in the middle of a scene, and then there was a power outage causing the rest of the shows that day to be cancelled. Take that how you will...but that's the closest I've ever come to being convinced that superstitions are real.

I hope you learned something new, and hopefully your Friday the thirteenth will be full of luck!

ALSO!!! If you're in Canada, I JUST FOUND THIS OUT, you can go to Starbucks for a free Refresher drink between 12-3pm!! Do it!!!
