Review: Essence Nail Color
I solemnly swear that I am almost out of Essence products to review. As a side note, I've bee doing lots of reviews lately, in preparation for next month's spending ban (more on that tomorrow), so comment or email me your suggestions for fun August posts! Anyway. Beth and I decided to give the nail colours a whirl, which I was really excited about. Usually, when you’re paying $1.50 for nail polish, the quality is a more than shoddy, so I was excited to see if these lived up to the name.
Ultimately, three colors were bought. A pleasant blue (gleam in blue), a steely gray (luxury secret), and a peachy nude color (modern romance).
Both the Gleam in Blue and Luxury secret went on very opaque with one coat, and dried quickly, which was a definite plus. Modern Romance was definitely sheer. It took about three coats to get a decent opacity to it. The brush is very similar to the one that you get in a Nicole by OPI polish: kind of flat and rounded off, like the shape of your nail. This makes application really easy to do. The colors are vibrant as well.
In terms of wear, with no topcoat, it lasted about three days without chipping. With a topcoat, it was more like a week before the chips started to happen. In terms of wear, it’s definitely not a China Glaze or an OPI, but you can’t really beat the quality/price payoff on that. I’ve had a few cheaper nail polishes in the past that have been really dreadful. This one isn’t like that at all. I would recommend this to anyone looking for some cost-effective nails, not just young girls! :P
