Grey's Anatomy Sadness

Okay guys. This is going to have spoilers from the Grey’s Anatomy premiere, so don’t read it if you don’t want to see that. I just need to talk about it. I know it’s not my usual, but I have to talk about to someone.

I cried. And cried. And cried some more. I hate it when Greys does this to me, because I love the characters so much that whenever something happens to them, I take it very personally. The plot points in this episode were the fact that Meredith and Christina can’t see each other anymore, because they live apart and they both are terrified of air travel. I understand this for really personal reasons, so I really sympathized. Also, Derek is having trouble with his hand. He had smashed it last season, and was trying to save it so that he could go back to being a surgeon, but it appears that it is irreparably broken. There’s also a little plotline about the new interns coming in, and them having a tough time adjusting.

Then comes the big hitters. The entire episode, they make it sound like Arizona is dead. It turns out she’s not, but her leg is amputated now. She is however outrageously depressed. Mark is in a coma, and has been for thirty days. He apparently has a living will that states that after thirty days, he is to be taken off of life support. This was heartbreaking. They show all these flashbacks of his life, and how he is really a great guy. Funny, clever, a good father, and totally and completely in love with the now-deceased Lexie. As he’s taken off life support, I keep waiting for that Greys moment, when suddenly, he coughs and splutters and comes back to us. That moment never came. He was simply gone. I cried buckets. Although, through all the sadness there was a very poetic Romeo and Juliet theme to it, which was tragically beautiful. Lexie was lost, and shortly after, her Romeo joined her.

All in all, I’m so thrilled for this season to get underway. It’s going to be wonderful, I can tell. I feel like this season may be Grey’s last, so I definitely am looking forward to making the most of it. Next week, they’re going to explain what happened in the middle, between the plane crash and the dead Mark, which I’m excited for.
