Revlon Selects: Nail Products
A few weeks ago I applied to be a part of Revlon Selects to try out new Revlon products. I’ve done things similar to this a few times, but it’s never come into anything. I never heard back from them and assumed it had gone the way of all my other endeavours. Wrong. The postman knocked on my door last Monday with a package from Revlon containing five products for me to try out.
These products were sent to me for free, but I was not paid any actual money for this.
Three of these products were for nails, which I’ve reviewed here for you today.
The little Revlon Selects kit came with two double-ended nail polishes.
The first one was Revlon Nail Art Moon Candy in the shade Orbit. It’s a deep plum-y varnish, with a holographic shimmer topcoat. The deep plum really shows up nearly black after two coats. Really one would suffice. But then you slap on the top coat and it really comes to life. IT takes this galactic blue colour that is really just astounding to look at. I got a ton of compliments when I wore this combination. Unfortunately, it does not photograph well due to the extra holographic nature of the glitter. I do have a couple complaints though. Although it looked fantastic, you really have to glop on the topcoat to make it look nice. Then it takes a long time to dry, which I don’t like. Also, even with two coats of a clear topcoat, it was always still bumpy. That really bothers me. It lasted on the nail a long time…like six days, which is really a lifetime for me. I work with my hands, so it has to really be durable to hold up longer than three or four days. It looks cool enough that I’ll certainly be using it a ton.
The second nail polish is the Revlon Nail Art Expressionist in Vincent Van Gold. This is a handy duo for doing fancy nail art to yourself. The purple side was really similar to that of the Moon Candy one, but it was a little lighter. Two coats gave it a perfect royal purple colour. On the other side was a creamy gold, with a nail striper brush so that you can paint lines and dots on your nails in graphic designs. I like that the nail art side is easy to use. I’m not very artistic, but even I managed a simple little dot design. The colours also pair really well together. I kept this one on for four days, and then I was going to a fancy event so I took it off in favour of something else. At the time, it had no chips at all, but I’ll be giving it another go soon for longevity.
I liked these two a lot. I’m a bit of a nail varnish fanatic, so it’s nice to have a little diversity. The double ended tube is bulky and awkward at first, but you get used to it really soon. The colours are vibrant and long lasting, and above all, they’re pretty.
There was also a Revlon Diamond Collection nail file. Pretty run of the mill, except one side is sparkly. It’s cute, and you won’t lose it, because it’s hot pink.
I’m flying to Hawaii in about five hours, so I might be a little scarce tomorrow. I’ll try to post something. :)
