Hair Stuff

I’ve been so busy cruising around the state that I haven’t done a product review in what feels like forever.
Since I’ve gotten my hair cut, I haven’t done any heat styling at all. The plain fact is that it’s too dang hot. Today it was 94 degrees. I can’t be taking the time to dry my hair, or curl it, or straighten it, because the inside of my house is sweltering. The good news is that the air is so dry here that I don’t have to worry about frizz. There’s not enough moisture to cause that to happen. I’m also pleased that I picked now to get it all cut off. I haven’t been out west in about a decade, so I didn’t realize how hot the summer was going to be. I don’t think I could cope with all that weighing me down.

Not the best photo (taken late at night after a couple drinks), but pretty good for before and after comparison of the length.

Since I have sworn off of heat styling, I’ve been using two products exclusively to make sure that my crazy curls are manageable.

First is Lush’s R&B. I’ve been using this bad boy for more than a year now, and like most Lush products, it’s got an expiration date that I’m about to hit. I’ll have to wait until I get to Canada to get some more, just because it’s easier for me to go ealk into a store and pick up a jar than it is to order it and wait. It’s actually cheaper to do it that way for me. Anywho. This stuff is great. It has a love it or hate it smell, but when I put it in wet, it does a great job of moisturizing, smoothing, and taming my curl. This bad boy is $22.95, but the one jar has lasted me about 18 months, and I gave a good bit of it to my sister.

Next is Matrix Total Results Amplify Volume Mousse. This stuff is super great. It’s not strictly for my hair type, but it does a really good job of giving you that soft curl, but still a lot of hold. My hair doesn’t get wide when I’m using it, but it also isn’t weighed down. I use about a ping-pong ball sized amount. I got my can at Ulta, but you can get it at salons or online if you don’t have one near you. My Ulta just happens to be next to the Kohl’s...we’re there a lot.

Usually I’m good a second or third day once the hair is done. I have to say, missing ten inches of hair is great. I spend a significantly less amount of time getting ready. I spend a lot less time in the shower because I have fewer hair products to worry about. I miss being able to braid my hair. That’s about it. Oh well. Sacrifices had to be made.

Did you change up your hair for summer? Big change or just a little?
