Blogmas #24: Year in Review

It’s our last day of Blogmas. It’s been fun, but it’s time for me to buckle down and get a few things done before I have to go to school. Because of this, I’ll be taking a few days off, and then I’ll be back to doing the usual.

Since it’s my last day, I thought we could talk about 2013 in general, since it’s nearly over.

So what happened this year? According to Facebook, the most talked about things that happened in 2013 were, in order:
  1. Miley Cyrus
  2. Government Shutdown
  3. Boston Marathon
  4. Syria Crisis
  5. Harlem Shake
  6. Pope Francis
  7. Rob Ford
  8. Royal Baby
  9. Nelson Mandela
  10. Chris Hadfield
This year, most of the things we talked about were somewhat pessimistic/sad/shameful/salacious. Hopefully next year things will be a little bit better. I like that Chris Hadfield made the top 10. That shows at least some interest in science.

What about music? The top five most streamed songs on Spotify were:

1. Radioactive – Imagine Dragons

2. Thrift Shop - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

3. Can’t Hold Us - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

4. Get Lucky – Daft Punk

5. Blurred Lines  - Robin Thicke

I like Macklemore and his general message, but I’m a little disappointed that Blurred Lines and Get Lucky beat out some probably more empowering singles. Although they are both very catchy. So very catchy.

For me, this year was really an improvement on last year. I quit a job that was dragging me down, and spent a summer doing things that I loved. I’ve taken some classes that I have loved, and have made some great friends. I also moved into a new apartment that sucks so much less than my other one. I even still get along with my roommate. What a great year. I’m also finishing Blogmas off by getting a letter approving my graduation on May. It has been excellent.

It’s my last day of advent calendar as well! Today, I got another box blush. This time it is Dandelion.

Dandelion is very natural. It gives a really subtle pink that is great for more low-maintenance days. I am sure I will have a lot of use for it.

This was the first time I had a not-chocolate advent calendar. There are things that I will be able to get a lot of use out of and am willing to try out, but it didn’t seem like something I needed to have. The necklace and the bracelet were both so terrible, and there was a lot of primer going on. I won’t have to buy new primer for months and months now though.

Blogmas has been fun. Thanks for following along, and I’ll see you in a few days.
