Hollywood Week: DIY Luxe Hair Masque
Leading up to a big night, sometimes you want a little bit of pampering. What better way to channel your inner star than with a fantastically healthy hair.
I’ve been using hair masques with some regularity, especially because of the cold weather when my hair is really getting robbed of moisture. My favourites right now are the Garnier Damage Eraser Reconstructing Butter and L’Oreal’s Mythic Oil Hair Masque, but you can make your own at home that will make you feel like a million bucks.
You will need:
½ a banana. It’s okay to use a really ripe one.
2 tbsp. coconut oil
Directions:
Mash up your banana. You want to make sure that there aren’t any chunks because you don’t want any bits to get stuck when you put it on your hair. Microwave your coconut oil until it’s a liquid and stir into the mashed banana. Add your honey and you’re ready to go. You also might find it easier to microwave the honey as well. At this time of year it can be particularly viscous. Apply your mixture to your hair and let sit 15 or 20 minutes. It’s easiest if you just slip on a shower cap for this part. After your twenty minutes are up, rinse it out and enjoy your shiny, healthy hair. Be sure to rinse well.
Bananas are high in Vitamin B6, Potassium, and Biotin, all of which contribute to hair growth and strength. Your hair will also smell great after this. The coconut oil will also moisturize dry and damaged ends. Honey also adds shine and moisture.
I recommend using this two or three days before your big evening, just to make sure that any of the heaviness of the coconut oil (particularly if you have fine hair) is gone.
