Hollywood Week: Eat Like a Nominee

Wolfgang Puck makes the dinner for the Governor’s Ball, where the big fantastic Oscar dinner is served. No expense is spared. It’s a huge, extravagant affair, and you didn’t get invited. That’s okay, neither did I. But that’s no reason that you can’t eat like an Oscar nominee!

The first course served is hors d’ouevres on trays during the cocktail hour. Believe it or not, these included vegetable spring rolls with dipping sauce, sliders, and assorted (particularly posh) mini pizzas. There was also a sushi station, as well as bacon wrapped dates, and mixed nuts.

After being seated, the guests enjoy both hot and cold dishes.

For cold dishes, there’s mostly salads, jazzed up with peaches on top or grilled artichokes. There’s also a tuna salad and a chicken salad.

Hot dishes included several familiar dishes, such as chicken pot pie (with truffles), steak with mushrooms, macaroni and cheese (also with truffles), shepherd’s pie, and tortellini.

And the desserts. Oh lord, these desserts. Chocolate soufflés, mango crumble, macarons, and crème brulee. They also have some smaller desserts that get passed around including chocolates molded to look like Oscars and covered in edible gold dust, cookies, and lemon bars.

So, now that you know what they’re eating, it’s pretty easy to do this yourself. Mini pizzas, sliders, and spring rolls are easily available in your frozen foods aisle, or to make yourself at home. I’d recommend a trip to the grocery to see what’s available. For the hot dishes, including macaroni and cheese, and shepherd’s pie, many of these foods can be cooked in muffin tins for individual portions.

Even the stars are eating cookies and lemon bars, both of which are quick and easy to make at home. So even if you aren’t at the party, all of these things are crazy attainable.

I know this is an overwhelming amount of food as well, so you can definitely split the responsibility up between your friends, or just forget about it and order a pizza instead.

Edit: I saw this video today about to make chocolate Oscar statues. It's a bit late now, but you can do this for just about any chocolate mold, so check it out!
