Spring 2014 Favorites (plus giveaway?)!

I don’t do favourites posts very often, because although I try a lot of new products, I go back to my tried and true ones every time. Still, I thought I’d give it a go.

So here are the ten things that I’m loving right now.

Lush Angels on Bare Skin
It’s time to get my skin ready for springtime sun. I use a really harsh acne cleanser (it’s Clean & Clear of some kind, but that’s not important). After I use that, I usually have to put on a very heavy moisturizer to make up for the moisture I’m stripping off. Instead, now I use Angels on Bare Skin in my shower after I use my other cleanser. It has ground raw almonds, clay, and lavender. The almonds add almond oil to your skin for moisture, while the clay and lavender are soothing. It adds in moisture without breaking me out again. It’s also vegan and cruelty free. It does have kind of a funky smell (the downfall of all Lush products), so watch out for that.

Aveeno Anti-Fatigue Eye Roller
I had left a so-so review on this, but that was because I had not unlocked its full potential. Dark circles? Doesn’t do a thing. But redness. It helped me out a few days ago, and I’m now completely converted. I’ll be keeping it on hand for just that kind of circumstance. I had been sent an extra one, and I thought I’d pass it along, so if you want it, you can win your own in a giveaway below.

Body Shop Peach Vineyard Body Butter
Again, I’m starting to show skin that has been hidden away for months and months. As well, we’re having this strange cold snap that has also done a number on my skin. Enter body butter. The Body Shop makes my favorite body butters. They’re thick, rich, and absorb quickly. They also come in a number of delicious smells. The scent I’m on right now is Vineyard Peach. Oh goodness. It’s like smelling a fresh peach on a summer day. I love it.

Benefit Sunbeam
I received this over Christmas, and at the time, I didn’t need this. Heading into spring, this has been great for bringing about an almost-sunny glow. If I put it on over a dusting of bronzing, it adds a nice look that makes me look slightly less pale. It’s been a part of my daily routine every day for the past little while.

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Lovesick
I used this almost constantly last summer, and then shelved it for the winter, but it’s back out now. I love these in general, and have several different colors, but this hot pink one is by far my favorite. It does stay on all day, and doesn’t come off strangely. They were really popular last year, and if you missed trying one then, you’re missing out.

Body Shop Eau de Toilette in Brazil Nut
On the daily, I don’t usually use perfume. In Canada, unlike in the US, a lot of the places I go are designated scent-free (which I think is ridiculous terminology, but we could discuss at a later time). This eau de toilette is light, and doesn’t smell like you’d think it would. I get a lot of compliments like “You smell nice, but I’m not sure what you smell like” and that’s really what I’m going for. It’s warm, vaguely like vanilla, but warmer, with something unique and sweet. Because it has this sweet element, it’s not out of place in the springtime. It’s also not too costly. I think it was $15 (Canadian).

Batiste Dry Shampoo
I use this several times a week, year round. I use it when my hair is clean, or when I haven’t washed it in several days. It smells nice and doesn’t turn my hair grey. There is a brunette shade, but I don’t like it as much, so I usually stick with the original.

MAC Eyebrow Pencil in Brunette
I like having nice eyebrows, but I’m also very lazy. I see these complex eyebrow routines with three colours of brow gel, and then clear gel on top of that, plus pencil, and two brushes, and I can’t believe that anyone really does that. This is my favourite eyebrow product because it’s really impossible to screw up, and it’s one product. The pencil goes on smoothly, and it has a handy spooly brush on the one side. The shade choices are limited, but I haven’t had a problem with this one.

Goodreads App
I don’t use a lot of apps, but I came across this one and had to give it a try. Any time someone recommends a book to me on the go (which happens a lot) I can immediately look it up and add it to my to-read shelf in a matter of seconds. It’s made my reading experience much better. If you’re not using Goodreads, you should be. I have the one for Android (because I have a crappy little Samsung thing) but there is also one for iPhone, it just looks a little different.

Sally Hansen Miracle Cure
I have crap-tacular nails. They don’t grow very long, and tend to be very brittle. One of the reasons I keep them painted so often is because it covers them up. I have been using this product for five weeks now and it’s been nothing but excellent. You paint on a thin coat, and it can go under any color of varnish, and it makes your nails stronger. It really does work. My nails don’t grow better, but they are stronger and break less. Definitely worth looking into if you have these problems.

So. Giveaway. You can be from anywhere, living anywhere that accepts mail form Canada. Usual rules apply. You must be over 13, and if you’re under 18, you have to have a parent’s permission. I’m not expecting to get very many entries, so if you’d like to share this, by all means do. Oh. And it ends in one week on April 10th.
