Job Interview Face of the Day

Don't worry folks. I don't have a job interview any time soon, but it's a new year and a lot of people are in prime job-hunting mode, whether it's for a New Year's Resolution or just that time. It doesn't matter if this is your first job or your tenth. You need to nail that interview. I have both nailed and bombed many interviews, and sometimes it's a fine line between the two. Here are some tips, plus a Job Interview FOTD.

Just to talk about my experience, I currently work at a mid-level office with a fairly strict dress code, so I think that these tops are pretty general for what you need, but keep in mind what your particular job's dress code needs.

Five General Job Interview Tips
  • Use your internet stalking skills to research the company and management with the same vigor that you research hot guys you met over the weekend. No detail is too small. Know that company inside and out.
  • Lock down your facebook, twitter, or whatever other social media you use. Trust me, your boss is going to look at them. Check your privacy settings and get rid of anything that might be even a little questionable.
  • Elaborate on your story. The interviewer always says “tell me about yourself” right off the bat. Don't just say, “My major is X” say, “I studied X because X. For example, “I studied English because I feel that communication skills can be applied to any industry”. This goes for everything. Don't just say you did something, say why you did it.
  • What's your weakness? Pick a real weakness, but definitely talk about ways you have overcome it. Yeah, you might struggle with organization, but you have started using an agenda and reminders to keep yourself on track and it no longer effects your work.
  • Avoid the bold makeup looks. Save that for after you have the job. A neutral lipgloss will serve you way better on this day than something hot pink. At the same time, you want to look like how you will look when you come in to work.
For the ladies, my go-to outfit is a neutral bottom half, such as a black skirt or navy pants, with a conservative print top, and a coordinating jacket or cardigan. Simple, three piece, can't mess it up. Also pay attention to the shoes. If you have nice shoes, you'll feel instantly more put together.

Here is a face of the day that I put together.
