Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Color | Review

I was in Target (just picking up one thing) when the Revlon display caught my eye. Isn't that how it always goes? But I found this...so maybe it was worth it.

I am quickly becoming a liquid lipstick girl. The Revlon Ultra HD Matte Liquid Lip color ($7.99) finally made it here and I snapped up the color Devotion. I love matte lip color, but I know that this is something that is hit or miss for some people. If it’s too drying, you don’t want to keep using them, but they have to dry down or they transfer like crazy. It’s a tough balance.

The packaging on these is wonderful. I like the frosted matte finish and the silver cap. It feels expensive, and worth more than I paid for it. The applicator is also this wedge-shaped paddle. It’s also really soft and plush. The shape plus the texture makes it easy to make the line of your mouth really sharp. No lip brush needed!

Devotion, the shade I picked up, is a deep pink, and it’s a great transition shade as me move into the colder weather. I also feel like it could be put over a dark lip liner to make it move into winter.

The good thing about these is that they don’t feel drying at all. It’s a very velvety finish, and it doesn’t ruin your lips for the next few days. As a downside though, they don’t really dry down all the way. You’re still going to get transfer no matter how long you let it dry down. It’s also not quite a liquid lipstick…or quite matte. It’s somewhere between a lip-gloss and a lipstick, but closer to the lipstick end. The matte finish is definitely more satin matte, with some sheen left. It also doesn’t last like a liquid lipstick should. You’re looking at maybe 4 hours, which puts us firmly in lip-gloss territory. But it’s pigmented. So pigmented. One swipe and you’re set.

The verdict? It’s okay. I like the color, and the packaging (including that fabulous applicator). Unfortunately, the formula just isn’t special. It’s not a wow. I think that they’re worth picking up and trying out if you love one of the colors, but I don’t love them the way I love the matte balm stains or even the moisture stains (even with their awful name).

So I’ll leave it up to you. I’m firmly on the fence. I’d like to hear what you think of these. Did you pick one up? Am I missing something amazing about them?
