Hask Mint Almond Haircare Line | Review

When I’m walking down the aisle of the drugstore hair products at CVS, Walgreens, or Target, there’s always that section of “higher end” hair care that is away from the usual mainstays of Patene, L’Oreal, and Tresemme. Usually, I’m happy sticking with the usual suspects, but these days I’ve been trying to branch out into some lesser-known brands.

This was how Hask entered my radar. I was surprised to see that it’s an incredibly accessible brand, available at just about everywhere you’d expect…Target, CVS, Walgreens, Walmart…it’s very convenient. I also love that all of their products are free of alcohol, gluten, parabens, sulfates, parabens, and phthalates. I love it when brands pay attention to their ingrediants and keep it as natural as possible without all the fillers.

Since learning about Hask, I’ve been trying out their entire line of Mint Almond Oil haircare, with a shampoo, conditioner, and a root thickening spray. First, it’s important to say how fantastic these smell! They are the most refreshing mint, and not at all like toothpaste. I like that these make it a unisex, rather than floral or perfumey. I don’t often share my shampoo and conditioner, but it does happen occasionally, so the minty smell is a nice touch for guys or girls.

Shampoo

This shampoo is such a winner. This shampoo is pretty thick, and I was worried that it would have trouble lathering because it’s both this thick and sulfate free. Nope! This gives me a luxuriously thick lather, and you only need a tiny bit to get all of my hair clean…and I have a lot of hair. My hair also feels clean for days after using this, less dry shampoo needed.

Conditioner

This conditioner is a thick, opaque white. It’s so thick that I actually have a hard time squeezing it out of the bottle. Like the shampoo, it feels much more expensive than it actually is. It’s wonderfully creamy. Like all of my conditioners, I leave this one on while I scrub my body, letting it sink in for 3 or 4 minutes, with it on my ends only. I don’t wash my hair every day, so I never condition my ends to keep it from getting greasy as long as possible. This gives my hair such an amazing rush of both moisture and volume. I find that it’s hard to get both. It’s usually moisture + flatness, or dryness + volume. This one manages the balance, and I love that.

Thickening Spray

I usually don’t use hair products post shower (except for the aforementioned dry shampoo), so this was a new thing for me. I often tease my hair at the roots to give me some lift, so I was excited about having the opportunity to try something that might fix that. This just works. I section out my hair, like I would if I was teasing it, but then spray this on and blow dry it out. I’m not sure how it works…but it works. Crazy movie star volume in seconds!

So, how about that packaging? I hate it. It is the only thing that I don’t like about this line. I think that they need a new graphic designer to tell them that Papyrus isn’t a suitable font anymore. That said, the product inside is amazing and totally makes up for the awful design. Maybe that’s just me and I’m being picky, but it’s the only thing that makes this seem cheap.

So, I’ve found a new love in my life, and I’m excited to try out some more of their range! Here’s hoping for some more awesome haircare from their line?

Have you tried Hask? Are there any other drugstore finds that I should know about?
