Boxycharm | May 2016

My Boxycharm arrived a few days ago, and as per usual, I love it. I have some complaints, but there are also some things that I am totally in love with, so let’s jump in.

Makeup Geek Blush in Covet - $15

Made with the finest ingredients, Makeup Geek blushes blend effortlessly into the skin of a natural radiance. The finely milled powder guarantees a creamy, smooth consistency that glides onto cheeks and blends with ease.

Wow. I was excited to see that all of the subscribers were getting another Makeup Geek product again this month. The eyeshadows we got a couple months ago are phenomenal, and I’ve been using them a lot. I was hoping that I would love this blush too, and I do. Everything about it feels expensive. It has a sturdy metal case with a firm magnetic enclosure and a large mirror (compared to the size of the blush). The color I got was Covet, which is a deep nearly-red color. I only need a light hand with this to get a gorgeous color, and it is incredibly easy to blend. But. But. I feel nervous about this. I can’t find it on their website, which means it’s either super old (boo Boxycharm) or super new (YAY Boxycharm!). Either way, I like being able to find the things I love online, and I can’t find this at all. I know they recently reformulated their blushes, so this may be something they were trying to offload, which brings the price down to below $10, not $15.

Ella + Mila Nail Polish in Pistache - $10.50

This 5-free nail polish is vegan, quick-drying, and chip resistant. All Ella + Mila polishes are certified by PETA!

L-R: 3 coats, 2 coats, one coat
So this brand being approved by PETA makes me not want to buy it. But that’s a story for another day. I tried this out (and posted about it on Instagram) when I first got this box. I love the color. The pistachio green is lovely for spring, and, once on, the polish is set for five days of chip-free wear. But the bad: it goes on some gloopy. Unfortunately, many of those things they proudly don’t include do make for a better nail polish. Once it does chip, it fails in a big way very suddenly, but until then it’s great. So. On the fence, but still wearing.

The BrowGal Clear Brow Gel - $20

Hold the shape of your brow perfectly! The BrowGal Eyebrow Gel works with pencils or powders to seal and protect brows for anyone too cool to fuss and too busy to reapply. Go swimming at the beach or do hot yoga without the worry of your brows coming unhinged!

I don’t like the branding on this much. The packaging looks and feels cheap, and their marketing is definitely not my style. You can tell from the press language that it’s geared towards “couldn’t care less” teenagers rather than 20-something professionals. That said, the product is good. It’s seriously waterproof, which I don’t need to be honest, but is nice nonetheless. I don’t do much with brows because I have blunt bangs that cover them up, but I like this for hold without any color. Do I like it more than any other brow gel? No. But do I like it any less? No. Well. Until the next day. The next day, I had closed comedones (white heads) in my eyebrows. Like in between the hairs. That has never happened to me before. Do not like.

Starlooks Luxe Lip Liner in Charmed - $19.50

Starlooks’ long-lasting full-coverage lip liner enhances the shape of your lips and gives them perfect contour and definition. This creamy, moisturizing formula glides on softly to smooth lips and ensures lipstick stays in place, while extending its wear.

This is a custom color for Boxycharm. It’s a medium coral-ish color, and I like it. It looks delightful under a pink gloss and wears fairly well throughout the day. I disagree about it “gliding softly” on my lips. It’s pretty hard and waxy, so if that’s not your jam, you’ve been warned.

PUR Double Ego Duo Ended Eyeliner in Bora Bora - $21

Pur’s 2-in-1 dual-ended eyeliner is a multitasking must-have tool. Use the mineral pencil tip for smudge-proof everyday definition or to create a sultry smoky eye. Use the liquid liner to create bold intensity and the perfect cat eye!

Top - Pencil
Bottom - Liquid
This is another product that I’m a little mixed on. I really love the blue color. I had already started working on a post on blue eyeliner when this arrived, so that’s great timing. The mineral end (the pencil) isn’t the best. It’s smudgey and fades quickly, but the liquid end is awesome. It’s watery, so there’s an awkward dear-god-don’t-blink stage when applying it, but once it’s dried, it’s totally waterproof. Break out the remover to get it off.

Catherine Malandrino Romance de Provence Deluxe Mini Sprayer - $20

Discover the timeless allure of breathtaking Provence with this intimate floral bouquet. Catherine Melandrino Romance de Provence opens with fruity nuances of pear and black currant. At the heart, jasmine, rose and violet blossoms bloom on a gourmand base of vanilla, patchouli and tonka bean.

Boxycharm: if you’re listening, this is important. Catherine Melandrino is never going to happen. Stop trying to make it happen. These perfumes smell like what Grandma would put on if she was trying to get frisky at the nursing home. No thanks. This is the third spritzer I’ve gotten from her, and I’m over it.

That was this months box! Overall value came to $106, while the cost of the box is $21. I think this month is worth it between the brow gel, eyeliner, lipliner, and blush, but minus the perfume.
If you’re interested in Boxycharm, you can get your own here! I have really enjoyed getting it, much more so than Glossybox, Ipsy, or Birchbox.
