Valentia Skin Detoxifying Mask

It’s almost summer, and I’ve been lightening and brightening up my routine. This needs to extend to skin care as well. I’m been turning to clay masks to help exfoliate my dry skin and allow me to wear a lighter layer of foundation or (gasp) no foundation at all.

Valentia reached out to me just in time to try their Skin Detoxifying Mask, formulated with kaolin clay and botanical extracts to deeply clean the face, pulling out impurities, dirt, and oil to improve skin tone. It also claims to reduce pore size and leave the skin smoother and softer, as well as having some firming properties. They use primarily natural, organic ingredients, and really care about what they’re telling you to put on your face.

Added bonus: Valentia is vegan and cruelty free. :)

To apply, this is a medium beige clay mask. It does dry hard, in a can’t-talk kind of way, but it’s isn’t painful or too tight. It does tingle a little in a cooling way when I first apply it, but it’s pretty great.

It takes about 15 minutes to dry to its hard state, and then can be buffed off with some warm water, taking all the dead skin with it.  I did work it in with some warm water before rinsing.

As for the claims, I believe that it meets most of my expectations. I don’t think that it firms particularly well, but that’s the only thing I think it didn’t accomplish. My skin felt clean, my pores were less noticeable, and my skin was softer. It didn’t make my skin sensitive or red at all. It did seem to pull all of my developing zits and acne spots to the surface, and I was initially not thrilled about that, but I was excited to wake up the next morning and see that they were totally gone and my skin was clear.

Based on that, I would say to use it, and then to sleep on it and evaluate in the morning.

And the best part? It smells fantastic. Wonderfully fruity-floral.

If you’re interested in trying this out, it’s available here at Amazon, and you can also check out Valentia’s new (and much improved) website here. If you have some Valentia products,  don’t forget to tag them on Instagram too.
