Tasty Treats: Good Eats in Minneapolis-St. Paul
Hey guys! Back again with a little bit of Everyday Adventure for you guys. I've already blogged a little about some of my favorite places I had eaten in the twin cities (check it out here!),but I've been eating out at a lot of cool new places and thought it would be good to do an update.
Chino Latino
I'm a sharer. Charles and I like to share when we go to restaurants in general. Chino Latino is...culturally offensive. Take a look at their logo and you'll see what I mean. It's not tactful. But the food is interesting. It's a sharing place, where you can get several plates to share and enjoy together, or one large plate. We got three small plates and didn't leave hungry. My favorite was the Chinese Braised Short Ribs. The food isn't my absolute favorite, but the concept and the menu are interesting enough that it's worth the stop.
Sample Room
Like Chino Latino, the Sample Room is made for trying many shareable small plates rather than a few large dishes. We stopped by for the second time a few nights ago to take advantage of a fantastic happy hour. Among our plates was duck-fat popcorn, steak sliders, and curry with rhubarb kimchi. It's excellent if you're looking to try something new and are with some semi-adventurous people. Note: also great cocktails.
Izzy's
After a failed attempt, we made it into the uber-popular ice cream joint. Izzy's is famous for topping its cones with a tiny bonus scoop, called the Izzy. They have unique flavors as well as old favorites, and some dairy- and gluten-free options. I am very, very sceptical of dairy free ice cream. I had yet to find one that was actually delicious and had a good-enough texture. Their dairy-free fudge and cookies had both a rich texture and tasted amazing. I got the Dizzy Izzy, or five Izzy scoops in a cone. It will set you back a little though. Two cones ran us around $20. I think it's worth it.
Aster Cafe
Aster Cafe followed me on Instagram (shameless plug
) and it just so happened that we were looking for a brunch place that same morning. The brunch was delicious and reasonably priced, with coffee that was as black as satan's soul. But my favorite item was the peach soup. Yes, you read that right. Peach. Soup. We ordered it to share mostly out of curiosity and were very impressed.
Mesa Pizza
There are a few locations of this semi-chain restaurant in town. I like a good piece of pizza. I like it even better late and night, or in an interesting flavor. At Mesa, you will find both of these things. Macaroni and cheese pizza? Maybe chicken alfredo? Or perhaps (slighty more healthily) Avocado Delight or Kalamata Olive. No matter what your taste, they have some tasty pizza available by the slice. They also deliver until 2am most nights...not that I've tried to go there that late...
We go out a lot, so I'm always looking for suggestions. This isn't even a scratch on the surface of all of the excellent food that I've gotten to eat, not to mention the dozens of fantastic breweries in town. Foodies of the Twin Cities: hit me up. I want to know where I should try.
