What I'd Buy with $1,000 at Sephora
I saw this tag going around on Youtube a little while ago and thought it was such a neat idea. What would you buy at Sephora if suddenly the price wasn’t an issue? I know that this is the most frivolous thing to be talking about, especially now, but it’s kind of like imagining how you’d spend your winnings if you won the lottery. If $1000 in Sephora gift cards showed up in your name, and you had to spend them, what would you do? It’s so funny because I had such a hard time getting to a full thousand dollars. I got pretty stuck at like $600 and couldn’t really think of much else I would even want. But I did it! Here’s how I would spend my cold cash money.
Skincare
My skincare picks are mostly made up of things that I really want to try, but that I just can’t justify the money on. First is the Tatcha The Dewy Skin Cream ($68). For $68, I can buy so much skin cream, but there’s something about Tatcha that seems like such a luxurious experience and I’d love this. In the same boat is the Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm ($34). I have a cleansing balm I love (this one) that works perfectly well, but I also loved the sample I’ve tried of the Farmacy. I’ like to use it more than once to give it a really fair review. If I had the cash, I’d also double down on the Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Resurfacing Night Serum ($134). Every time I have used this, I am shocked at how much it changes my skin for the better. But it is soooo pricey! I’ve tried all the dupes (all of them) and nothing works quite like it for me, but I just can't often justify that kind of expense. Finally, for skincare, I’d make a long-term investment in my skin health and get the PMD Personal Microderm Pro ($199). I definitely can’t afford professional treatments on the reg, and this seems like it would be the next closest thing!
Makeup
Makeup was where I had the most fun, probably. I really went nuts in here on things I just would love to try. The big-ticket item is the Natasha Denona Sunrise Eyeshadow Palette ($65). I have one Natasha Denona single shadow and it is wonderful. The texture is some of the best that I’ve ever seen. This is one of her lowest-priced palettes, but the sunset-themed colors are ones I’d get the most use out of. Another product that I’ve been coveting, mostly for nostalgia purposes is an Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette ($64). I remember when these came out and you had to have one. I was a poor college kid then and spending $110 Canadian dollars was completely out of the question at the time. I still think about it on occasion, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. The other item here that I haven’t tried is the Patrick Ta Major Beauty Headlines Double-Take Creme & Powder Blish in Oh She’s Different ($34). Long name! Patrick Ta doesn’t get spoken about too much, but the products look absolutely stunning. I would be interested in dipping one toe into his expensive pond to see if it really is worth it.
The rest of the items are kind of boring things that I already have and use that I would buy more of or other shades of. The Nars Soft Matte Creamy Concealer ($30) is a favorite of mine, but I’ve been avoiding buying more concealers until I wear down some of the supplies that I have going right now. The same goes for the Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner in Olive You ($26). I don’t have this color, but I have two others, and no eyeliner sticks and lasts like this one. It’s my absolute favorite. I have hazel eyes that kind of slant green, so I love an olive tone on the eyes, and I’d love this one. I’ve had a couple of samples of the Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer ($30) and really have a growing affection for it. It grips! Just like the name says. It finishes tacky and hangs on to my makeup all day. I’d splurge on a full-size. For mascara, I’ve been testing a sample of the Ilia Limitless Lash Mascara ($28) and so far it’s been my go-to for low-makeup days. It has a very my-lashes-but-better feel and I love it. Finally, since I love the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, I’d dive into the daytime version with the Laneige Lip Glowy Balm in Berry ($17).
Haircare
There isn’t much that I feel the need to buy from Sephora for my hair, but two things caught my eye. I have used the Christophe Robin Purifying Scalp Scrub with Sea Salt ($53) off and on for a couple of years now. It’s a godsend in the winter to clear up a dry flakey scalp in a gentle and soothing way. The second item is the Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector ($28). Mostly because I’m curious. My hair isn’t severely damaged (currently) and is also not regularly being colored anymore, so I don’t know if it would do anything. But I’m curious about that.
Extra Stuff
Sephora has so many other little goodies! I’d pick up my favorite perfume, Atelier Cologne in Orange Sanguine ($80). It’s dumb expensive, but I love it and it’s one of the only perfumes that doesn’t give my husband a headache. I also never splurge on fragrance, so this would be a big buy for me. In the same vein, I wouldn’t ever see myself splurging on fancy false eyelashes, so I’d pick up a pair from Lilly Lashes, like the Miami Short ($30). I’d also splurge on an Amythest Gua Sha Facial Lifting Tool ($34). I have kind of a square jaw, and I’m interested in using a gua sha, but I haven’t taken the plunge because I think they’re super overpriced. Maybe because they’re trendy now? I don’t know. And the LAST item…I had fifteen dollars left, so I picked up a duo of my favorite nail polishes (Nails Inc. Joyful Nail Polish Duo for $15). This left my total at exactly $1000, without tax and shipping.
Just for fun…how much would tax be? I was shocked that it was “only” $82.46.
What would you buy with a $1000 Sephora gift card? Let me know!
