Dreams for 2020

I feel so strange that this is 2020. It felt like that was a year that was far off in the future, but the future is now! I was thinking about what my younger self would have liked me to be doing in 2020 and I think that she’d be happy. I have a lot going for me right now. I became a homeowner, I’m married, I have a dog, I have a job that feels really fulfilling…it’s all good. But I can still do better. I feel like that’s my theme for the year. Better.

I have four main goals, and I think that this is a good theme to encompass them al together.

Over the past five years, the number of hours that I spend reading per year has plummeted. It feels like there aren’t enough hours in the day for it, which is, of course, totally false. There is time, I just haven’t made it a priority. I’m in a book club now, so I think it’s easier, but I am going to work on it being a bigger part of my day.

Plan a big vacation.

This wasn’t a big travel year for us. It makes sense. We got married, moved, bought a house. It wasn’t a great time to pack up for a European vacation. I’d like to finally take a honeymoon abroad and plan that for this year.

Make more sustainable fashion choices.

I started on this during 2019 and I’d like to continue on with it. “Sustainable” mostly means picking clothing purchases that I intend to have for multiple years and use until they wear out. This means shoes that are quality-made and will last multiple seasons. Timeless silhouettes and pieces that fit a style that I expect to continue evolving. I also live in a cold climate, so I’m also looking for high-quality pieces that I can use during the winter. I’m mostly tired of buying things that only last a season or two before I don’t like them or they’re unfashionable.

Schedule unplugged time.

My last goal is to have a dedicated time of no-phones to spend with my husband and dog. We’re not good at this. I’m not good at this. I’d like to spend time on this. Leaving the phones at home when we go out, or having a couple of hours WiFi free to play games or chat.

What are your goals for this year? Happy 2020!
