Happy Wednesday! For Wedding Wednesday, Charles and I are going to talk about your experience getting a made-to-measure suit from Indochino. It’ the choice that we went for when choosing suits for a wedding party. Instead of renting tuxes, which would run $250+ each, Charles liked the idea of buying suits that everyone could keep and wear again rather than just have for the one day. Rental tuxes also, generally speaking, don’t look all that great, because they aren’t yours. Seemed like a no-brainer!

What is Indochino?

Indochino has two options…you can do the whole thing online, and send in your measurements, or there are a few in-person showrooms with employees who can do most of the heavy lifting for you. We happened to be close to a showroom, so we chose that option. I liked the idea of someone who was able to do all the measuring for us (and to complain to if it didn’t work). We picked a day, and got all of our groomsman in one spot to do this. The showroom had a back fitting area, and then a front display area with bolts of fabric that you could see and touch so that you could choose the best one. Each of our guys got their own tailor (? I don’t know what they’re called. Fitting men?) and got to choose their own fabric and custom choices.

Why Indochino?

We picked it pretty much for the convenience of having a showroom within an hour drive for our groomsmen. Also, where else can you get a suit that’s exactly what you want for less than $600, already tailored?

The Experience

The first thing that Charles did was pick out his fabric. The only guidance that I gave the guys was that it was supposed to be blue. We had chosen navy as one of our colors, and I was stuck on that. Otherwise, the whole array was open.

The fabric that he chose was Conway Prince of Wales in Navy, which is a blue with a thin slightly lighter plaid. After the fabric gets picked, the choices appear.

There are so many. Do you want it structured or unstructured? What kind of lapels? Which buttons? How many? Pockets? Lining? Vests? What kind of vest? Lining on the vest? Pants? Pleats? Cuffs? Shirts? I never knew that there were so many options when making a suit. The whole process took about 40 minutes, led by our associate, Ryan, on an iPad.

After that, it was to the actual fitting. Charles went in and put on a generic white shirt, and was measured in it. This was then repeated with a vest, pants, and jacket. I was so impressed with the tailor, Charles. He went fast and was pinning and moving fabric the second (my) Charles would open the curtain. I think it helped that he was also a fairly petite man, so he know what Charles needed it terms of fit. Then we were done! Our suit would be mailed in two weeks, and we would have ten days to decide if it needed alterations after that. The suit arrived at the exact two week mark. The total cost for a shirt, pocket square, tie, vest, pants, and jacket was $540.

The Results

Oh my gosh, the suit was perfect. It fits wonderfully without alterations. It was just about everything that we dreamed of. Charles is 5’10, 130(ish) pounds, with a 29-inch waist. Finding clothes that fit him without alterations for formal occasions is difficult, and we did it! It is also the nicest suit that he’s ever gotten. From the length of the pants and the sleeves, to how the collar pokes out from the under the jacket is impeccable. The clothes also have lots of little details, from stiff canvas at the waist to hold a tucked shirt in, to meticulous care instructions. The fabric is also fairly high quality, and feels expensive.The only issue that we had was that it was creased in transit, and will need to be steamed before he wears it out in public. Also, this might be too much, but the pants give Charles a great butt. Seriously.

We had a fantastic experience. A perfectly fitted suit in two weeks? No problem! It also is something that Charles will be interested in wearing often, giving it a lot of value. The only complaint that I have is that the pocket square and tie selection was pretty abysmal, so I went and picked up some from a different store. They didn’t have any that made me feel would match our wedding. If it had been needing alterations, Indochino also provides $75 in alterations credit at a local tailor!
