Reviewed: Ben & Jerry's Moo-Phoria

One of my favorite ways to celebrate a long and successful day is with ice cream. A big part of my weight loss journey has been about reconsidering how I think of food, but I have not been able to shake that taste for delicious, sweet ice cream. I hadn't found a low-calorie alternative that I like (don't get me started on "nice cream"), so I had just been eating tiny amounts of regular full-fat ice cream. Until now!

In the past, I reviewed the Halo Top ice cream. If you want to read that review, it’s here, but I’ll tell you…it was rough. I was not a big fan. I love ice cream, and the idea that “ice cream” is now made of added fiber and fillers and sugar alcohols for the sake of low calories. I also don’t like how they market the idea that you should eat a whole pint in a sitting. I like ice cream. Cream and sugar and flavoring.

So, I was excited to finally get to try out the Ben &Jerry’s Moo-phoria line of ice cream. I looove ben and Jerry’s, but I don’t love the million calories that it comes with. Moo-phoria is a lower calorie option, but it still promises to be real ice cream.

The kind that I picked up was Chocolate Milk & Cookies, and it’s exactly what you think it will be, and what I expect from Ben & Jerry’s. It had huge chunks of half-baked chocolate chip cookies and vanilla and chocolate ice cream swirled together. It did taste like a tasty glass of milk and some fresh cookies.

I loved it. It tastes like real ice cream and doesn’t have the strange texture issues that some of the ultra-low calorie ice creams have.

I will say that it is not as good as full-fat straight-up Ben & Jerry’s. If you’re comparing them, the feel is not as creamy and the flavors seem almost muted. However, comparing it to other “diet” ice creams, it’s easily the best.

It’s not health food, and let’s not pretend that it is, but if you’re looking for a lower-calorie ice cream choice, this has my stamp of approval.
