InstaBeauty - Sephora Play April 2018

I took a break from writing about Sephora Play last month, mostly because I didn't feel like there was anything to say. This month, on the contrary, I feel like I have a lot to say. Sephora Play used to be my favorite part of each month, but now I feel like it's being disappointing. Anyway, you'll see.

As per usual, there are five items, plus a bonus sample. Each box also comes with a Play! Pass, which you can redeem for a one-on-one tutorial in-store, plus 50 bonus Sephora points. I no longer live within three hours of a Sephora, so that is kind of wasted on me.

Urban Decay Hi-Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lip Gloss in SLP - $2.85

An on-trend iridescent lip gloss that visually plups while it moisturizes.

I don't really wear lipgloss. I'm more of a lipstick girl. I do really like Urban Decay, so I was happy to give it a try, but that color. It's all the best things about frosty 2004 lips. If it was 2004 and I was trying to be Paris Hilton, this would be fine, but I'm not. Solid pass. As for the formula, it's okay, but nothing to write home about it. I probably wouldn't purchase, even in another color.

Would purchase? No

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Perfector Skin Tint Foundation in #6 - $6

A weightless skin tint that blurs imperfections and protects skin.

I wanted to like this but Sephora has decided that I'm actually hella tan. This is a solid four shades too dark and has a strong orange undertone. The last time that they sent me a foundation, it was a perfect match. I'm very sad that wasn't the case this time. I tried it out to test the formula. It's a fine formula, but it doesn't provide the kind of coverage I want, and it has a lot of flashback from the SPF.

Would repurchase: No.

Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Rescue Mask - $9.30

A five-minute facial in a jar that targets dull, rough, and dry skin.

Fresh is a brand that I can always get behind. This mask feels awesome on and does a wonderful job of both moisturizing and exfoliating my dry skin. It also has a lovely cucumber smell that I love. The problem....this is, of course, hella expensive.

Would repurchase: Yeah, but that pice is baaaad.

Peter Thomas Roth Skin to Die For No-Filter Mattifying Primer & Complexion Perfector - $7

A lightweight primer that blurs imperfections and reduces the look of pores.

As a dry skin girl, I am 100% not interested in mattifying anything. This is a nice, silicone-y primer, similar to Benefit's Porefessional, but I'm just not the right audience. I find that it makes my dry skin look much worse, and I don't see myself using it. It feels delightful, but even my longwearr foundations do not sit well on top of it.

Would repurchase? No.

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Poreless Finish Airbrush Pressed Powder - $7.25

A  translucent pressed powder that reduces the look of pores for a flawless airbrushed finish.

Again, dry skin. Sephora knows this. This is not a bad pressed powder, and if you're a regular wearer of pressed powder, I think you'll like this. But it's not for me, and I'm disappointed that Sephora would think that it is.

Would repurchase? Nooope.

Miu Miu L'eau Rosee

This soft floral blend exudes fresh and sophisticated feminiti with an edgy musk.

This make's the third month in a row that Sephora has left me disappointed. After I received this box, I chose to cancel. I don't feel any regret about this. I decided to switch to a box that has a little more to offer from what I've seen, which is Allure. I've tried Glossybox, Boxycharm, Birchbox, and Ipsy, so this seemed like a good, new choice. Hopefully it will no longer have the lack of creativity and lack of value that I've come to expect from Sephora.
