2019
It’s 2019. Today. That’s just bonkers to me. Last year, when we were saying things like “we’re going to move in 2019!” it seemed like a million days away, and that we had all the time in the world. Today, it’s actually 2019 and I know that this year is going to fly by faster than ever before. I didn’t want to talk “resolutions” so much, but I did want to talk about a few things that I want to work on over the next 365 days.
Make my health a priority.
This year was the year of declining health. I felt like I was sick all the time, and I wasn’t managing my health, physical or mental, well. I was hesitant to see my primary care provider, even when I knew it would help, and my medication protocol was in dire need of updating. I’m not quite sure why. I live in a place where access to healthcare is actually not difficult. We have lots of providers, and I’m able to get appointments within a few days every time I call. I’m not worried about losing weight, really. I’m more concerned with building a healthy lifestyle. Choosing to make better nutrition and exercise choices, as well as putting my well-being as my top priority, is the menu for 2019.
Build the foundations of a strong marriage.
It’s crazy to think that this time next year, I’ll be looking back on the year that I stopped being a me and started being a we. We have 7 months and 7 days to go until the wedding (yikes). It really seemed like forever ago when it was 13 months away! We had tons of time! Anyway, the wedding is planned and is shaping up to be a really good event. I’m happy with everything. The dress, the menu, the venue, the flowers…it’s all beautiful and perfect. But I want to set us up for more than just one successful day. Some priorities here are working on building a good relationship, and seeing a couples counselor to help us start out with a plan for a strong life together.
Spend more time with God.
This one was something that’s been nagging at the back of my mind for about a year, but that I haven’t chosen to prioritize. I would like to devote some time this year to living my faith and creating a better relationship with God. As I think more about the future, and how I want our lives to look like, I’ve been thinking about the kind of values that I want to pass down. For me, it’s not the things we say, or the things we think, it’s the things we do, and that’s something I need to do more of this year.
Do something every day to improve my quality of life.
I think that saying that I’ll take part in “self care” this year isn’t really the best. This year, I want to do something each day that makes life better. I’m going to try to journal it, and to make a point of keeping track of the little things that I’m doing, whether that’s spending time taking the dog for a walk, or cleaning the oven.
That’s it! Just four little resolutions. 2019 is already shaping up to be the busiest year on record, and I cannot wait!
