What's on my iPhone
Do you remember those old-school tags? Where someone would show you everything on their phone, or in their room? Let's bring it back today. I wanted to share what I keep on my phone because I run a lot of my business from there, and have some awesome tools I'd like to share.
I currently have the 128GB iPhone 7, and I don't really feel like I want to upgrade just yet. It's a good size physically, and I really love it.
Okay. Here we go. I have exactly one page of apps. No swiping either way for me. This is due to the magic of folders!
In the Dock
The four apps in the dock at the bottom of the iPhone, prime real estate, are Safari (web browser), Gmail (email client), Messages, and Instagram. They're my most used apps, and that's where they live.
Not in a Folder
White Noise is the app I use every night to go to bed. It plays a variety of white noise sounds (my sound of choice is Airplane Cabin) on a one-hour timer. I don't go to sleep without it anymore. Google Home controls my Google Mini that Charles hates. Something about not wanting "the man" to hear us. The last app not in a folder is Overcast, which I use for podcasts. The smartspeed filter is amazing. It reduces dead space when hosts are talking, speeding up my podcasts by 10-15% and you don't notice. It's great for getting more done in less time.
Shopping
Shopping holds my seldom-used but important apps. I have LetGo, which is a sales app for having online garage sales, in case I want to get rid of something, and Poshmark, which is the same, but for clothes. Then a couple mass-retailers, Target and Walmart. I also have Starbucks because it holds all my gift cards.
Photo & Video
This folder is a mishmash of photo editing and storage apps. First is Netflix. I don't use it on my phone, really, but I have it. Then I have Youtube and Youtube Studio in case I need to make adjustments to upload in a hurry, or need some entertainment. For editing apps, I have several that behave similarly. Boomerang, Layout, and Hyperlapse are all from Instagram, used to adjust photos. For editing, I have Aviary, Pixlr, Facetune, iMovie, and Canva. I know Facetune is controversial. I don't use it for really facetuning, but it has the best exposure adjustment of any app, so I use it a ton. Lastly, my best-kept secret, Google Photos. Short on space? Google Photos has you covered. Need to transfer between machines? Google Photos has you covered. I use it every day. Oh, and IGTV which I haven't used at all yet.
Social
Social apps live here, duh. All the usual subjects are here. Facebook and FAcebook Messanger, Snaphat, Twitter, and a REddit client (BaconReader).
Blog Tools
Alright. Here's the meat of this thing. I have some instagram tools on here. Plann is my favorite, and I have a premium subscription. It plans, schedules, and posts photos for me, and holds my hashtag library. I aso have Prime, which mentions the best times to post, Followers, for keeping track of that annoying Follow/Unfollow game and knowing who your most active followers are. And Later! Later has a few features that Plann doesn't, so I'll occasionally switch back and forth. I also have Squarespace Tools including Blog for wirting posts, and Analytics. Andddd Pinterest! The only time I use Pinterest on my phone is for posting and reposting blog photos, so I keep it here.
Health
I've been working on me, and my health apps are a big part of that. I have Couch 2 5K for running, Fitbit, 5x5 (for lifting), and My Fitness Pal (food tracking). Together, these things have helped me lose 20 pounds. I'd like to lose another 40 before next summer, so there's a little work to be done. I also have the Red Cross Blood Donor app, because, you know, that's important.
Finance
Keeping my finances straight are American Express, Wells Fargo, and Mint. Mint keeps track of everything from savings to bills to my credit score. Can't recommend it enough.
Education
When I'm not here, I'm actually a teacher. Some apps that keep that together...because we all need some help. I have Outlook for my school email. I also have PowerrTeacher and Powerscan for inputting grades. I also have Remind for texting my students without them having my number. I also have Zipgrade (again, premium subscription) for instant grading and Dropbox for holding onto all my files.
Travel
Travel apps! Yay! I have FlyDelta and Hopper for booking flights. We fly almost exclusively Delta, but Hopper tells you when to book based on fluctuations in price. For places to stay, I have Airbnb and Hotels.com, which cover just about anything. For practicality, I also have Venmo (for sending money back and forth), GoogleTranslate and Google Maps, all of which are invaluable. For things to do, I have Yelp for finding restaurants and reviews, and AllTrails for hiking. My coolest travel app is iPlant, which identifies plants from photos!
And that's it! Tell me, what are your most used apps!
