August Allure Box

It feels like every time I look up, four weeks have gone by! It’s August, whcih means back to full time dayjob employment for me, and definitely less shopping and staying in the housee. I’m pretty excited about it, to be honest. I think having the routine back will help things feel more normal, even if they aren’t quite back to the regular programming. Either way, I have a place to wear makeup!

For those of you not in the know, the Allure beauty box is shipped out each month by Allure the magazine. It contains 5-8 items that can be minis, deluxe or travel-sized, or full-sized items. Every month is different, but spoilers come out in advance in case you’re a stop-and-start subscriber. Each month is $15. If you want to get your first month for $10, you can sign up here!

Now that we got that out of the way, what’s in here?

First in the box was the Pixi Rose Oil Blend (full size, retails for $24). This skin oil smells strongly of roses (duh) and makes my skin feel smooth and hydrated. I typically only use oils first thing in the morning, because my dry skin loves them, but I don’t want to break down my makeup. Pixi is a brand that I always wonder about, but rarely shop, so this was nice to try! The smell is pretty overwhelming, so I might try to see if they have other oils that are less fragranced when this runs out.

Next up is a brand I hadn’t heard of, Sulwhasoo with the First Care Activating Serum (full size retails for $84(!), this sample is worth $11.20). This serum is extremely smoothing and pretty on the skin. I like to use it in the evening before bed, and I’ve started to notice the difference little by little. It doesn’t work scores better than other serums I have from brands like the Ordinary, but I like it. I’ll use it up, but that price tag hurts me.

I also got a bar of soap. I know, not exciting. It’s an expensive bar of soap. The Erno Laszlo Sea Mud Deep Cleansing Bar retails for thirty-eight dollars. That is a lot for a bar of soap. A whole lot. Okay, this is only the mini bar, which is only $19! That’s still more than I’ll ever spend on a soap. I passed this one on to Charles, and I’ll be honest, it’s a bar. of. soap. His face got clean, but let’s not take this too far.

Also pushing up the moisture is the H2O+ Hydration Sensitive Gel Cream Moisturizer (full size is $42, this sample is worth $8.40). Similarly to the soap bar…this is a moisturizer. I cannot figure out what on earth would make it worth the price tag. It’s fine, but I wouldn’t spring the cash on it.

The final skincare item is a K-beauty facemask from Looks & Meii ($3 each). The aesthetic of this is weird and I can’t say that I’d pick it up if it was in the store. It looks weird. This is, as is the theme of this box it seems, just fine. It’s not run-out-and-get-it special, but it did the trick.

In the box are two color cosmetics, or the real-real of beauty products. The first is a Botanical Primer from Whish (full size is $44, this sample is worth $16.50). I don’t lie Whish. They are one of those brands that seem to only bop around beauty boxes. I don’t like this primer, either. It’s quite greasy and doesn’t help my makeup last at all. In short, I wouldn’t mess with this at all.

The last beauty product is a Brighten Up Highlighter in Sunlit from Floss ($20). I like the color of this a great deal. It’s more glitter than shimmer, but I think it would look nice for a soft glow. The texture of this is also really interesting, closer to cream to than a powder. It’s silky smooth and goes on nearly moist before blending out. It’s interesting, and I’m going to keep playing around with it.

Am I happy with this box? Yes. Compared to the last few, I felt like this one had a much better handle on what I want to use and love. It also hit a bunch of trends that I’m into right now!
