Lipsticks From My Purse - Winter Edition

You know how it goes. You’re running late in the morning, and think “oh, I’ll put on lipstick in the car!” or the back room, or your office, whatever, pick a place. So you throw your lipstick in your purse, and before you know it, they’re all in there. You look up in that purse, and all your friends are in there.

I thought it would be kind of cool to take a look in the depths of my purse and pull out the things that have been hanging out with me this winter.

The first thing you’ll notice is that I have a type. Kinda pinky-nudes…in some different finishes, but that’s what it is. You’ll also notice that I have a particular love for MAC lipsticks. This is true. Maybe it’s because that was the unattainable “cool girl” brand when I was younger, but nothing says luxurious like that warm vanilla scent of a new MAC lipstick.

Matte

Tarte Color Splash Lipstick in Yachting

I got this in a beauty box at one point. It’s a little drying, but it’s a nice deep plummy color that pops when I want a deeper lipstick. I very rarely wear true red lipstick to work, but sometimes I want more color.

Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in East End Snob

When I want something that’s not low maintenance, it’s no-maintenance, I go for this. It’s a great my lips but better kind of shade, and I usually pair it with a lip balm or gloss for a look that will stay all day.

MAC Powder Kiss Lipstick in A Little Tamed

I was talked into this by a sales associate, and I’m so glad. It’s a muted true pink and adds some brightness when I feel like my skin is looking a little gray. I also love the matte finish, but it’s never drying. I love these and would recommend it.

Satin

MAC Brave

This is the lipstick that I can put on with any look and it looks great. I don’t need a mirror, and it’s just instantly flattering. For those of us who came of age in the Revlon Kissable Balm in Honey era, this is a close match.

MAC Fresh Morrocan

Sort of the opposite of MAC Brave, I wear this when I want to look like a bad bitch. It has a shiny spicy red finish but is still muted enough that I don’t have to worry about it being high maintenance.

Gloss

bareMinerals Gen Nude Patent Lip Laquer in Dahling

This is allegedly a lipstick, but it wears more like a long-lasting gloss. I love the color and it stays super shiny, but it doesn’t really “set down”. It’s quick to throw on though and is universally flattering for me.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Gloss in Kristen

This is pretty much the same formula as the other one (Dahling) but in a slightly more brown tone. This one looks great over the Rimmel lipliner (also in the purse). It is pretty thick, so I wouldn’t wear this over another lipstick though.

Balms

Fresh Sugar Rose Tinted Lip Treatment

This is what I wear when I just need a balm, and I don’ need color. It says it’s tinted…but it’s not really. There isn’t a ton of coverage here, but it’s moisturizing and has a little SPF so I like to keep it around. It comes in some other shades that do have some more coverage.

Smith’s Rosebud Salve Balm

When I want to tone down a lipstick or de-mattify one, I will use this. It’s slippery and smells strongly of rose, so I rarely use it on its own, but love this over a lipstick.

Show me! What’s hanging out in your purse?
