May 2012 Glymm Box
I got my May 2012 Glymm Box :)
Glymm has revamped its image this month. When you first open
the box, it becomes obvious that there is no other pretty pink box inside.
Instead, you see the usually couple of cards, and a pink makeup bag wrapped in
tissue paper. The first card is the standard Glymm card, but it says that they
are now going green with the makeup bag instead of the boxes, and lists stats
about recycling. Next is an ad for Caudalie, which says that when you buy two
Vinosource products, you can get a free Caudalie lip balm. That’s nice, but I
wasn’t planning on buying two products. Finally is the Glymm product card,
which is a lot bigger this month. This month you get seven products.
The makeup bag is really sturdy; standard sized, and is
really pretty hot pink color, with all of the products inside. First is an itty
bitty sample (like you get at a department store) for Calvin Klein One Shock
for him and another for her. They both smell delicious. I wish I had a guy to
spray down with the man-version, because it smells magnificent: minty, manly,
and vaguely floral, while still musky. It smells like you think a guy should. The
female one smells great too. It’s much more floral than the male version, but
subtly so, it also doesn’t have that alcoholic smell to it. I’m tempted to buy
at a later date. Both bottles retail for $45 each, so each tiny vial (which
shouldn’t even have a value) is technically $1.08
Next is a 5-ml sample of Mineral Matte Cucumber Face
Sunscreen. The card says that it will last up to 4 uses, but I think that’s a
little optimistic. It’s SPF 30, and the company (Coola) donates a portion of
the proceeds to cancer research. It smells very fresh and summery. However, it
does have a very oily finish to it that I’m not particularly fond of. The full
sized bottle costs $36, so this one is worth $3.60.
Next is a sample of NuMe Hydropunch Hydrating Conditioner
for dry or color treated hair. They keep sending NuMe products, and overall the
company has me thoroughly unimpressed. The sample is 20mL, so it’s a goodly
size, but it doesn’t behave any better than my normal drugstore conditioner.
The real killer of this product for me is the smell. It smells like sunscreen,
and I don’t really want to smear that into my hair, so it makes me sceptical of
the $24.99 price tag. The sample is worth $2. This is also an exclusive just-launched product.
Next, I got a Mereadesso Lip Treat. Mine was untinted, and
is both a balm and a primer. This is a full-sized item, but when you purchase
them you get two. It’s really nice. It goes on smooth. It’s tasteless,
odorless, and colorless, but moisturizes dry lips. The packaging also says to
use it as a lip primer for more lip products. Sounds divine. This little baby
is worth $14, but when bought comes in a pack of two for $28.

Also in the bag is a 15-ml sample of Caudalie Gentle Buffing
Cream. It lives up to its claims of exfoliation, and certainly left my skin
softer. The texture is lovely. It’s smooth, creamy, and glides on
magnificently. It also has a very light lemony scent, which immediately makes
me think of grandeur and luxury. Retail price is $35, so this little guy is
worth $8.75.

Finally, there was a very generous portion of Caudalie
Crushed Cabernet Scrub. It comes in this cute little glass jar that I’m sure to
reuse. Sadly, the jar was the best part of this scrub. It smells terrible. It’s
supposed to be ‘wine-inspired’ but it really only has a vague stale barroom
smell. Disappointing. As a scrub, it’s also too coarse for my skin. It scrubs a
little too hard. I don’t think I’ll
be purchasing this. The jar is quite large, though, at 60g, so the sample is
worth $11.60 of the $29 price. I also can't attest that it eliminates cellulite...i don't think it does.

This is the last Glymm box that I’ve ordered. Overall, I’ve
found that I only really enjoy a couple of the products every month, and it’s
not really worth my time. I’ve decided to give Glossybox Canada a shot starting
next month, so hopefully that goes a little better. However, this month’s
revamped look seems really good. The makeup bag is really nice, but I don’t
need 12 makeup bags in a year. I also hope they keep up with larger samples,
because that was a nice change. Actually, the sample diversity is the reason
that I’ve decided to give Glossybox a try. They seem like the samples are of
better quality, and larger. If I don’t enjoy Glossybox, we’ll go on to the next
service until I find one that I like.
I hope you all enjoyed my Glymm boxes, and look forward to
Glossybox next month!
