Yes We Can

Unless you’ve hid yourself away from Facebook, twitter, and the TV for the past 24 hours, you’ll know by now that President Obama has won a second term. For those of you who do follow me on Twitter, sorry about the ridiculous number of tweets that I sent out. I get excited about stuff. Anyway. I can’t even say how elated I am at this. Being in Canada, I voted several weeks ago by absentee ballot, which I find very intimidating, because you feel oddly detached from the system of voting.

I voted for Obama, and I’m not really shy about saying that. I feel like this year, it was a toss-up between social issues or economic issues. Economically, Mitt Romney is probably the better choice. Of course, we’ll never know. On the other side, he is against several social issues that I agree with, and I just couldn’t vote for him because of that. The thing with this is now I have to hope that I’ve made the right choice.

In good news, the first openly gay Senator was elected. That’s pretty cool. I feel like this is my generation’s civil rights movement. Hopefully we’re doing it right. On that note a few states will also be adopting same-sex marriage shortly. I’m proud of that. Not my state, but that’s okay. One step at a time. The big step that my state made was that the democrat senator won a primarily republican state. I was really happy about that. He beat out a career politician who I have difficulty trusting. Plus, this guy is a farmer and a music teacher. You just have to trust a music teacher.

Are you happy with the election outcome? What do you hope will happen in the next four years?
