Golden Globes 2013 Best Dressed
Last Sunday was the
Golden Globe awards. Every year, I watch eagerly. I hope that my favourite wins
and I marvel at the clothes. This is one of those occasions where everyone
looks flawless, but it’s not as rigid as the dress code as the Oscars. This
year, I don’t want to talk about the clothes that I didn’t like, but I did want
to show you some of my favourites.
This go around, there
were a couple of big trends I noticed. The first was that there was a lot of
hardware on the red carpet. Big belts were in. Studded, chunky, bedazzled
collars and shoulders and jewelry were in. As well, the big colors of last
summer and presumably this summer too, were visible: tangerine and mint.
I loved Jennifer
Lawrence. She looked simply perfect. She seemed so surprised to have won, and I
honestly couldn’t blame her. She was up against some heavy hitters, and still
came out on top. When she went into the press room she had an adorable deer in
the headlights look. Just precious. She was rocking this bright tangerine frock,
complete with belt and bust detailing.

Claire Danes was
another big winner. Right now, it seems like she is at the height of her
career. I don’t really like Homeland, but she’s phenomenal on it. When I saw
her, I forgot that she just had a baby. The beach waves and the bright dress
looked lke she had just stepped out of a very classy kind of Baywatch.

Jessica Alba was also
rocking the vibrant trend. She had a chromatic coral look from her dress to her
bag to her lipstick. She always looks really put together. I wasn’t a big fan
of her feathery clutch, but she wasn’t hanging on to it all night.

I’m still not sure how
I feel about Taylor Swift’s dress choice. Usually, her fashion choices are
diaphanous and sparkly. This time around, she chose something much edgier and
darker. I felt like she deserved some kudos just for picking something
different.

Michelle Dockery
doesn’t really hit my fashion radar. She just never runs in the circles that
pique my interest. Iliked her white and gold piece for the Globes though. It
was equal parts edgy and demure, which I feel is a really hard line to walk.

Men always have it
easy in the fashion department. They throw on their suit, and as long as it fits relatively well, they look great. However, this year, I noticed that Eddie Redmayne had taken a little bit of a fashion risk, so he gets to be on my list too. Instead of a plain suit, he did a crushed velvet jacket with charcoal pants. The contrast plus the texture is a sure winner.
Who did you think rocked the red carpet?
