Revlon Selects: Lash Potion by Grow Luscious
I was sent a tube of Revlon Lash Potion Mascara in the shade
Blackest Black to try out for a bit and see if I liked it. I’ve been trying it
out for the past week. It usually doesn’t take me that long to come up with an
opinion on something like mascara, but I was really conflicted about this
product.
The packaging is gorgeous. I love how distinctive it is when
I’m digging through my makeup bag. It’s fairy-tale glamorous.
It’s a fibre brush, not a plastic/rubber one, which I prefer
greatly. It makes me feel like it’s a higher end product, even though it’s a drugstore mascara. It actually reminds me a lot of one from a Chanel
mascara I had. The wand has short and long bristles to provide you with both
length and volume to your lashes. I’m not sure if the short bristles did much,
because it seems like they’re all gooped up with mascara, but I did see a
noticeable difference in the fullness of my lashes, as well as the length. It
is super mega huge, so I did have to be careful not to get mascara on my
eyelid/nose/cheek...maybe I'm just clumsy.
The effect is just plain lovely. It gives you this brilliant showy look that I can’t get enough of. A lot of days I’m running out
the door to class, so I’m wearing my glasses, and I still got compliments on
it.
So what could possibly make me conflicted about this
brilliant, brilliant stuff?
When it fails, it fails hard. At around the eight hour mark,
actually at nearly exactly eight
hours, it flakes off pretty much immediately in a cruddy black mess that leaves
me looking like a panda. It’s really not good. I have a hard time
reconciling this with the awesome effect it had. There is a waterproof formula,
and I think I'll be trying that to see if it works a little bit better, because
I do like how it looks, just not it’s staying power.
I can’t say that I would purchase this mascara, but I will
go get it in its waterproof version and see if that works better.
