30 Before 30

I turned 22 over the weekend. It made me feel kind of old. I know it's not really old, but I started to move out of that college-age safety blanket and into adulthood. Scary.

If you’ve been following along, you know that I like to set goals for myself. I don’t like it when goals are abstract. It’s better for me when they have finite criteria that they are accomplished. So, last night, I sat down and I made a list of 30 things I’d like to do before I turn 30. They aren’t particularly deep or thought provoking. It’s just some stuff I want to do. If I tell someone about the list (like you, for example), then I’m more likely to actually follow through on it. So here we go:

  1. Have a real adult job.
  2. Run a 10k.
  3. Ride in a hot air balloon.
  4. Get published and sell my writing.
  5. Skydive.
  6. See some penguins.
  7. See an opera.
  8. Visit New Zealand.
  9. Do some random act of kindness.
  10.  Ride a camel.
  11.  Learn to drive a manual car.
  12.  Get financially fit...supposedly you're meant to have savings.
  13.  Website redesign.
  14.  Climb a mountain. A big one.
  15.  Send out Christmas Cards, like a real adult.
  16.  Own a car.
  17.  Take a (fun) roadtrip, not one where we're just driving like hell to get somewhere.
  18.  Get a dog.
  19.  Watch AFI’s 100 Years…100 Movies list...and the movies added when the list was updated in 2007.
  20.  Get some really great professional photos done.
  21.  See the sunrise on the beach. I could do this tomorrow...maybe I will.
  22.  Cook every recipe in a cookbook.
  23.  Go to a film premiere.
  24.  Go to the Iowa State Fair.
  25.  Dog sled.
  26.  Figure out liquid eyeliner. I'm crap at it.
  27.  Do something tangible with all of my photos, like a scrapbook or something.
  28.  Eat at one of those blind restuarants.
  29.  Go successfully geocaching. I've tried in the past and failed.
  30.  Learn to parallel park.

It's all very doable in eight years, if I start now. I'll check back in November.

Do you have a 30 before 30 list?
