Rimmel Match Perfection 2-in-1 Concealer & Highlighter

I don’t often wear concealer. I usually just layer up on my foundation on spots where I need some extra coverage. My skin is usually very cooperative so this works pretty well. Still, I saw the Rimmel Match Perfection 2-in-1 Concealer & Highlighter blowing up all over blogs and youtube, and knew I needed to try it.

The premise behind this product is that it gives you that bright Kim Kardashian undereye area. I bought it in the lightest shade (Fair 125) and went home to try it out.

This product is also supposed to adapt to your skin tone, but as noted when trying other products, I don’t think that’s necessarily true of any foundation or concealer. The concealer has a mild pink undertone in this shade, but not all of the shades available. If you know a little about concealing, you know that salmon-ish undertones are what cancels out that unpleasant purple color. So, if you’re really pale, you’re getting that benefit, but if you’re, say, Natural Beige, you aren’t. It does oxidize a little bit on the skin, so it does turn up darker after a few minutes. Because of this, if you’re between shades, I recommend picking the lighter one.

Bare Face
The texture of this is wonderful. It’s creamy and blends easily. It feels a lot more expensive than it is. I found it had a better finish and was easier to blend after it sat on the skin for a while, so you may want to give a few seconds to settle before working with it. I found after some experimentation that the finish is also better if you blend it out by patting it with your finger rather than using a brush. Once it’s on, the wear time is fairly average. It doesn’t last forever, but it will get you through the day. I think it lasted about 8 hours for me. I also touch my face a lot (yeah, I know you’re not supposed to), so I feel like it would last longer if that wasn’t a problem that you had.

Concealer and mascara, no foundation.
The only issue that I had with this concealer is the packaging. It has this brush applicator. You squeeze the tube and then the concealer comes up through the middle of the brush and you can apply it to your face. It doesn’t work very well. Sometimes it dispenses too much, sometimes far too little. It also clogs up. It’s not convenient and is annoying to use. It definitely needs some tweaking.

I really like this concealer. I think it works well and lasts a long time. It also brightens up a really dark area for me. It’s also inexpensive. I think it runs about $6 at Ulta (getting used to using US stores again), but I saw it advertised for around $5 at other stores. If you’re in the market for a drugstore concealer, I highly recommend this one.
