Sampling: Garnier Clean+ Nourishing Cleansing Oil

I’m a big fan of cleansing oils. I was a little bit sceptical about them and it takes a little while to get used to, but I am completely converted. It was nice to see, arriving in my mailbox, a sample of a drugstore cleansing oil. Finally, the chance to use a cleansing oil without having to shell out the cash for something high end.

The Garnier Clean+ Nourishing Cleansing Oil for dry skin retails for about $8.50. The main ingredient is mineral oil. I know that some of you will probably be avoiding this in your skin care. I’ve done a lot of my own research on the matter and I feel very strongly that mineral oil in cosmetics isn’t awful. Still, that’s something to keep in mind if you’re looking out for it.

Cleansing oils are fantastic for those of us with dry skin because they clean makeup and other impurities off of the skin while allowing moisture to be retained. You rub the oil onto your dry skin with dry hands (very important that everything is dry) and it dissolves all of the gunk of the day. After, you emulsify the oil by splashing water on your face and it then just rinses away. This oil pulls away the mascara and you can see it come away from your face almost instantaneously. The effect is really fantastic. It takes off everything. There is no trace of my makeup when I’m done with this. There is no need to follow up with any other cleanser. The only issue with this is that although it claims that it doesn’t leave a residue, it does. It’s not an oil slick or anything, but you can feel something. It’s hard to put my finger on it, but it doesn’t rinse away clean. Personally, I don’t mind this, because it adds a layer of moisture to the skin. Still, I can see how it may be a dealbreaker for some people, especially if your skin is less dry.

By itself, completely clear.
This oil is quite light, with a pretty strong floral smell. It isn’t overpowering, so I don’t think it would cause anyone to have any sort of reaction. Still, I mostly use this around my eyes and perfumes around the eye are never a good idea.

Add water and it turns white!
It works comparably well as the high end products I use for a fraction of the price. I’d say to proceed with caution with regards to the fragrance though. I haven’t experienced any breakouts or irritation, and don’t anticipate any. I think that if you’re looking to try out a cleansing oil, and you have normal-to-dry skin, then you should give this one a try.
