Favorite Heatproof Products
It has been hot as hell the past week or so (92F+/33C+). I
kind of forgot how terrible the dry heat can be out here, although it beats the
humidity of the east coast. My office is thankfully air conditioned, but my
work is spread out over many buildings which means a lot of walking around in
the blazing sun.
It’s just about all I can do to stop my makeup from simply
sliding off my face. Here’s my tips and tricks to help out with that.
First things first, you have to have a good sunscreen. I don’t
want to beat the dead horse because I am sure we all know by now that sunscreen
is important for a lot of reasons. I have some pretty wicked sunscreen
allergies, so I’m really particular about what I use, especially on my face.
The one I’m using right now is Neutrogena’s Healthy Defense Daily Moisturizer.
It’s a whopping SPF 50, and when coupled with the SPF in my makeup, I feel
pretty safe for a day at the office. This one in particular is also dry touch,
so it doesn’t feel greasy or icky. Of course, if you’re going to be seriously
outside, you’ll need to reapply and use something a little tougher.
Next up is a primer. These probably silicone-based wonder
creams will hold your face together all day long. My Holy Grail primer is, predictably,
Benefit’s POREfessional. It’s just the best, and doesn’t break me out.
I also feel like using a decent setting powder is really really important. I have dry skin and it’s
still a huge part of my summer routine. I’m loving the COVER FX Matte Setting
Powder. I use the shade light and it’s
essentially translucent. This loose powder is the best way to lock down that
foundation and ensure that it will not budge.
Waterproof and sweatproof eye products are also extra
important. Like I mentioned in my favorites, I’m still loving the Cargo Better
Than Waterproof mascara. If you’re looking for something a little lower end, I
am also a big fan of Maybelline’s Colossal Waterproof for truly colossal
lashes.
Also on the eyes, I’ve been using Tarte’s EmphasEYES
Amazonian Clay Waterproof eyeliner. It’s not technically mine, it’s my mother’s,
but I’ve been using it enough that I feel compelled to go out and buy my own. I
love gel liner for its staying power and Tarte’s is really the best for that.
That’s what I’m wearing to beat the heat this summer.
