September 2014 Favorites
I
had a few technical difficulties, but I'm back and ready to go with a
new week of blog posts.
First
(today), a late favorites post.
I
know I’m a day or two (maybe three) late, but I thought I’d share
my favorites for September. What? Favorites two months in a row!?
Yes. I’ve had some time to try things out and am more than excited
to share some of them with you.
Beauty
Again,
fleeing away from the over-hyped product, I couldn’t bring myself
to buy the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Concealer Treatment. Whew. What a long and unnecessary name. I mostly call mine the eye magic eraser. It works so well. I don’t
like the feel of the spongy top when it dispenses the concealer, but
it’s magic at covering up my undereye bags. It’s beautifully
creamy and does a great job. Totally worth it. It's also a drugstore product, so it's always less than $10 where I live. I use the color Fair.
My
nail colour these days has been a marvelous deep red. We’re well
into fall here in Montana, with temperatures dropping faster than I
cankeep up, so it’s time to bring out the vampy colors. My favorite
right now is from Cuccio, pulled out of the depths of my collection. It’s called Moscow Red Square. Do recommend.
Keeping
on our vampy trend, I’ve also been loving Revlon Colorstay Lipstick
in Backstage. It stays on all day and doesn’t dry out your lips. I
like wearing it sheered out during the day and then built up to its
full potential at night.
I’ve
been wearing my glasses most of the time, so I haven’t been doing
much with my brows. The thick frame usually covers them up entirely.
But when I have been letting them go free from their acrylic prison,
I’ve been using the ELF brow kit. It’s easy to use with both a
gel and a powder, lasts a long time, and is cheap. The brush that
comes with it is next to useless, but as long as I use my own brush,
I’ve had no problems.
TV
In
the Flesh
I’ve
been watching more TV than normal lately. I’m kind of a binger. I
want to watch alltheTVrightnow and then none for a
few months. I cranked through In the Flesh in two days. Given,
there’s not much there. In the Flesh is a zombie show, but it’s
smart. It’s not nearly as violent as The Walking Dead.
The story is that everyone who died in 2009 spontaneously rose from
the grave one night. Although they had their usual zombie rampage,
with the right medication, they can live totally normal lives with
their family. There’s nine episodes, I think, so you really can
whip through it.
The
Knick
This
show took me a while to warm up to. It’s about a hospital in early
1900s New York. It has a lot of general medical gross-ness. So much
blood. But it’s superbly written and has some of the best
cinematography I’ve ever seen. It’s definitely worth watching,
but it is really icky at times.
Food
Part
of my heart will always belong to the Midwest and its long tradition
of wonderful Scandinavian foods. One of these is the magic of lefse.
When I was very small, my elderly and disabled grandmother lived with
us. A true woman of the 60s, every Thursday, she got her hair done,
then we went out to lunch at the Happy Diner. Grandma would always
order a cheese crunchie, which is a deep fried grilled cheese
sandwich, and I would get lefse. It’s kind of a potato crepe-like
pancake thing. Very thin, very delicious. I loved putting honey or
cinnamon on them. The Happy Diner has been torn apart and replaced
with a Dairy Queen, but my love for lesfe never went away. A few
weeks ago, I was at the grocery and saw it. Lefse. In the freezer
aisle. Marvelous. And Granrud’s Lefse Shack will even ship to
you.
I
eat a lot of yogurt. My favorite is Chobani 100 calorie Greek,
because it’s not super high calorie, but has a ton of protein to
keep you from getting that 10 o’clock slump every morning. But it’s
boring. Plain vanilla. Dull. So I jazz it up with some granola.
Granola is objectively bad for you. It’s high in sugar and calories
and makes that probably-healthy yogurt immediately less healthy. I
like Bear Naked original protein because it makes me feel a little
ebit better about my granola. It’s made with cinnamon and protein
powder to keep you going, and it was still lower calorie than any
other choice at my local grocery.
Those are the things I've been loving these days! I'm hoping to get back on my posting schedule now that things have settled down a little.
See you next time!
