Too Faced Born This Way | Review

Recently, I was in the market for a new mid-range foundation. I’ve been loving my drugstore foundations lately, but wanted a more true color match.

I headed over to Ulta, and I was totally sold on the Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation. Unfortunately, the color I matched with was totally out of stock. Too many pale girls here in Montana! The sales associate (Hi Krista!) was amazing, and matched me with Too Faced Born This Way ($39) as an alternative because they have a wide range of yellow/neutral tones, which is what I needed.

I had heard some mixed things, so I was eager to get it home and try it out. I have dry skin, so medium to full coverage foundations can be a nightmare, sticking to dry patches and looking masky. No such problems with this one! It looks amazing on, like my skin but better. It’s definitely full coverage, but it doesn’t look cakey and feels totally lightweight. It’s easy to forget that you have foundation on. It also contains hyaluronic acid, so I can almost pretend that it’s giving me some antiaging perks. This foundation also wears a full day. No budging. Absolutely none for a full ten hours. I haven’t tested it out much beyond that, but ten hours is plenty for an average day.

Importantly, I find that it dries down a half shade or so darker, so if you’re going in for a color match, have them put it on you, then walk around the store and see if it oxidizes darker on you, because it will. For me, my best shade is Nude, which is a light neutral shade. It does pull a little cooler, which works great for me. The shade range is still limited when it comes to a variety of undertones, so this may be a little trickier to get a good match to. Also, like many foundations, it’s terribly lacking for dark skin tones. I am optimistic that this will be fixed someday soon, given how awesome this foundation is.

The packaging is gorgeous, with sturdy frosted glass and gold highlights. The pump is also really high quality. The pumps on foundations break like crazy for me, so I’m excited that this one is really holding up. One pump is also exactly enough to cover my whole face. Not too much, not too little.

If you’re out and about at Ulta or Sephora, hop in and see if you have a match. It’s an amazing formula and has quickly become the only foundation that I’ve used for the past while. I’m totally in love.
