Coastal Scents Revealed Smoky Palette Review with Swatches

As I mentioned in my Boxycharm unboxing, the Coastal Scents Revealed Smoky Eyeshadow Palette has really impressed me and become a regular part of my routine in just the few days since it came into my life.

It contains 20 smoky shades that can be used to vamp up any look. The website lists it for $39.95, but that’s a little misleading, because you’ll never pay more than $19.95 for it. The low price does not match up at all with the amazing quality of the eyeshadows inside.

Obviously, this is supposed to be a cheap dupe of the Urban Decay Naked Smoky. I don’t own that one, but I do have quite a few UD shadows, so I feel comfortable making a comparison of texture, at least. I find that the UD shadows are smoother, and creamier to apply, but also have much more fallout than the Coastal Scents Palette. So, there are pros and cons to both. Undeniably though, with Urban Decay, you’re paying $54 for twelve shadows, or $20 for 20 shadows. It’s not a dupe, but if you’re looking for similar looks at a fraction of the price, you’re set.

This palette also has a nice selection of mattes, satins and metallics. There are some major differences between the finishes though. In terms of mattes, the darker colors go on patchy and difficult to blend. The lighter mattes are totally fine, but the darks require a good primer, a wet brush, or both. The satin shades are gorgeous. All of them blend beautifully, and are creamy and delightful to apply. The metallics are also fantastic, but there are some fallout problems. They all pack plenty of color, so you can’t go wrong.

I also love the variety that this palette gives you. There are silvers, blacks, grays, but also browns, golds, and navies, providing a million options for whatever suits you. I like that this makes it suitable for both day and night looks. It also has the darkest, inkiest black that I’ve ever seen in a palette, so that’s a plus.

I swatched all of the shades below, and put an asterisk on the ones that I really think are worth the palette. If you’re looking for a palette, on a budget, I can wholeheartedly recommend this one.
