Dream Velvet Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation | Review

Wandering through the local Target (my natural habitat) and I saw the Maybelline new products display. I had just finished up a foundation and was looking for another when I saw the Dream Velvet Soft Matte Hydrating Foundation ($10.99, but drugstore stuff is usually on sale).
Wait. What?
Hydrating and matte?
No. Those don’t go together.
Do they?
I have dry skin, so matte foundation is usually a no-no. Don’t get me wrong, I have some in my makeup drawer, but it’s saved for parties that go late into the night and photography. It’s definitely not for every day. This amazingly manages to be both matte and hydrating. I don’t know how it does it, but I’m ecstatic that it can.

It’s so hard to describe. I prefer to apply this with my fingers, and it slides on like a magical velvety cloud. It blurs pores and imperfections. The first time I put it on, it was the definition of my-skin-but-better. It is a second skin, and looks like you don’t have anything on. The medium coverage is enough that I only need light concealer under my eyes before I have a flawless base. It also lasts. I get about 12 hours of wear out of it once I have my full face on (I don’t often use setting powder). It’s probably not what you want to grab for your big night out, but it’s fantastic for wearing to work every day, which is what I’ve been doing with it.

I have a nearly-perfect color match in #15 Ivory, which is something that I find close to impossible at a drugstore foundation, which sweetens the deal. I guessed which one I would need, and thankfully I was as close as I could get. The texture is creamy and moussey like many of their other “Dream” foundation products, and doesn’t cling to dry patches.

Apparently there is a foundation sponge on a stick that Maybelline has released to go with this foundation, but honestly, just use your fingers. It works the best and looks the most natural. Save your dollars there.
I don’t know what else to say besides that this is amazing. Please, go try it and tell me what you think. I am dying to know if everyone else loves this as much as I do. I am smitten.
