Testing Make Beauty Silk Cream Lipstick & Matte Finish Eyeshadow

MAKE is one of those beauty companies that surges up in the beauty community, and I can’t figure out where it comes from, but the quality of the products is wonderful and worthy of every bit of the hype.

Recently, I’ve had the opportunity to test out two of their bestselling products and give you my thoughts on them. Can we talk about how teeny and cute these samples are? The perfect amount to try without any inconvenient packaging!

Silk Cream Lipstick in Taffy

Taffy is a medium pink with a blue-purple undertone. The purple undertones aren’t visible in normal light, unless you’re out in bright sun, but they do manage to make your teeth look whiter instantly which is always a plus in my book. I like to have a few lipsticks that live in my purse, so that no matter what I’m wearing, I can throw them on when I’m in a rush. This is one of those lipsticks. It’s easy to throw on and forget about. It’s neutral, flattering, and versatile.

It sinks into the lips beautifully, and a little goes a long way. I haven’t had any problems with smudging, and that’s usually a struggle for me. It made it through a long day doing homework at the Starbucks with zero problems.

The full size retails for $25

Matte Finish Eyeshadow in Alabaster

I’ll be the first to say that the color isn’t unique. A matte bone-white? Yeah, we’ve all seen it before. But what makes this special is the formula. This eyeshadow single blends out beautifully. I’ve never been able to do that “lay down a base shadow to help with blending” technique because I’ve never found a good base shadow to do that with. This. This is everything I wanted. It sets down on the lid and is perfectly blendable. Layer eyeshadows on top, and they blend beautifully. After about a minute, it is not going to budge. I don’t know how they do it. I’ve never seen a powder eyeshadow do this.

I like the way that this sits on my lid and matches my skin tone just perfectly. Can you find a color dupe, probably. Can you find a formula dupe? I don’t think so.

The full size is $25.

About the Brand

As much as I love my new lipstick and eyeshadow, I love the brand’s mission and overall way of doing business. MAKE believes that everyone should be able to be outspoken, intelligent, confident, and live without being self-conscious. All of their products are designed with the idea of experimentation and finding what works for you in mind, covering a huge range of colors. They are also made entirely in the US, in New York City. They don’t test on animals or use parabens either, in case that’s something that you feel is close to your heart. And to put the cherry on top, they donate 10% of all sales to the We See Beauty Foundation, supporting women-led cooperative businesses.

I’m happy with the life of both of these products, and MAKE in general, and will definitely be looking out for some more of their products in the future. They have an awesome David Bowie-esque “Cosmic Stardust” line that just came out, so that might be next on my wishlist.

If you want to pick up some MAKE cosmetics of your own, you can find them at Barney’s, on their own website, or at Birchbox. I also have a great coupon for all of you! If you order off the MAKE beauty website (here) with the promocode MAKEYOURSELF, you'll get 20% off from now until April 15th!
