SALE Alert & Review: Urban Decay Sheer Revolution Lipstick in F-Bomb

Helllllo everyone! Today I have a lipstick review! It feels like with all the traveling I’ve been doing, my makeup has taken a back seat over the past few weeks. I promise that is not the case though! I am still slapping on a full face every day and experimenting when I can.

Well, if you didn’t know, all of Urban Decay’s Revolution Lipstick line (and I mean all. Mattes, satins, and everything in between) is on sale for half off. This is due to the soon-to-arrive Vice lipstick line that is going to cause all of these ones to be discontinued.

I had tried one of the matte lipsticks as a sample yearrrrrs ago and wasn’t impressed, especially at the $22 price point. Since they’re currently down to just $11, I was willing to see if I liked them a second time, perhaps in a different finish.

At Ulta this week, I picked up the Urban Decay Sheer Revolution Lipstick in F-Bomb. I had seen a blogger wearing it on Instagram and knew that I wanted to try it right then. I swatched it in the store and was still pretty unimpressed. Still, undaunted, I tossed it in my bag and brought it home.

The packaging on this (and all the Revolution lipsticks) is gorgeous. It’s a beautiful yet functional metallic purple-silver. It does get fairly fingerprint-y, which I don’t like at all, but it’s so gorgeous when you first pull it out of the cardboard. The lid also pops on with a satisfying and reassuring snap, and it hasn’t accidently fallen off in my purse. The twist-up bullet is tall and thin, making it easy to apply straight from the tube (sort of. We’ll talk more about this later) without much problem. It’s not a secret that I hate “edgy” names. It’s not necessary, and I’m a little embarrassed when people ask me to talk about what I’m wearing.

As for the color, F-Bomb is described as a true, medium red. I think that’s true-ish. I find that on me, probably due to undertones, or my already very pink lips, or because it’s sheer, it pulls pinker than I would usually consider red. It swatches a lot more red on the arm than it does on my lips, but the color is nice, and I don’t own anything quite like it.

I love the way that it feels. It slides on so smoothly and doesn’t dry out my lips. It doesn’t have a taste or smell which is also a plus. It takes two passes to get the color the way that I want it to look, but just one coat gives a beautiful wash of color.

There are some things I don’t like as much. The wear time is just okay. It’s not spectacular. It lasts about six hours. That’s fine, but nothing to write home about. Next, it doesn’t look quite right on my cupid’s bow when I apply it right from the tube. I need to use a brush to apply it on my top lip. That makes it kind of inconvenient for the application. It also does not photograph well. Every imperfection on my lips can be seen in the photos. In person, this isn't a problem at all, but I wouldn't want to be wearing this under flash photography on an important occasion.

Verdict? Buy the revolution lipsticks before they get reformulated. F-Bomb is delightful, and I’m going to tell everyone possible to pick it up while they still can. I have been told that it is going to be part of the Vice line, but do you want to take that risk? Grab it now. My opinion might be different if they were still $22, but $11, they’re easily worth it.
