Foxy Colourpop Ultra Mattes

I’ve used a few Colourpop products in the past, when they’ve belonged to friends, or other bloggers that I’ve met, but I’m never made an order of my own. I finally took the plunge about a week ago. Well, plunge is a bit of an overstatement. I dipped my toe into the Colourpop pool with one set.

Presenting Foxy Mini Ultra Matte Lip. Five of Colourpop’s bestselling shades of ultra matte liquid lipsticks. This was a product that I had not tried, and I know that this is a product that some people love and some people despise.

So, with my five baby lipsticks in hand, I started trying them out.

I should start out by saying that these are incredibly drying on the lips. It’s so important to moisturize before you put these on and after they are taken off. I’ve never used more lip balm than I have since I started testing these out. Seriously. Cake that stuff on overnight.

The colors are also not true to the tube. They dry significantly different in color than I was anticipating. If you’re in the market, I would definitely look at dried swatches on different skin tones to be sure that you’re ordering what you think you are.

With that in mind, three of the colors, Clueless, Tulle, and Beeper, dry very brown-based on me. Tulle is brown. Straight up, 90s brown. I didn’t think I would love it, but I did. I was pleasantly surprised how nice it looked. More Better dries the most similar to the color on the tube, which is a pretty berry purple. Creeper does the same. It’s a fairly true blue-based red.

Of these, I honestly like four of the five colors enough to reach for them regularly. Clueless is the only one I’m iffy about. I don’t think that the color is particularly flattering, and I feel like, given the grotesque number of lipsticks I have available, I probably wouldn’t pick it out of the crowd.

In terms of wear time, these are impressive. I can get 6-8 hours of wear out of them, including eating and drinking, as long as it isn’t something oil-based. I’m looking at you, salad dressing. More Better and Creeper did bleed off the lips, which is bad. No one wants clown face. It was better if I used a clear lip liner (like this one, or this one). That seemed to fix the problem, but again, something to keep in mind.

The price on these is also fairly reasonable. It’s $18 for the pack of 5 minis, which is okay, given that a full-size Ulta Matte is $6. Yeah, that makes the minis more costly per ounce, but you’re getting five colors, and I very very rarely use up a lipstick. That’s a value decision you can make though.

Foxy is available here, for a limited time only. Happy lipsticking.
