Allure Beauty Box October
After last month’s kind-of lackluster Allure box, I was excited to hear that htis month had an array of new cult classic hits. This one definitely had some hits that I was looking forward to getting, but also some weird things that I was not into. Let’s get into it.
Inside my Box
The first item in the box was the Sunday Riley Ice Ceramide Moisturizing Cream ($10.40, sample size). I really love Sunday Riley but that price point is just ridiculous. This retails as a full size moisturizer for $65. There are so many ceramide-enriched moisturizers that do the exact same for less. I also didn’t particularly love this. It’s a good moisturizer — there’s no denying that. The unfortunate thing is the smell. It smells like artifical cherries mixed with PlayDoh. It’s not good, and it lingers. I’d make this one a pass, but I’m happy to have tried it.
Next was the M-61 Powerglow Peel ($9, three treatments). I liked that they sent three treatments, so I could try it more than once before making a decision. This was harsh. It certainly did clear up my skin, as it ad salicylic acid, but I would not use this the recommended every day. It turned my skin red and had a distinctive burning sensation. Both faded quickly, thankfully, but it does make me hesitant to purchase again. This is an extremely popular product, so if you do have stubborn texture or acne, it might be worth a try. Just not for me.
This one also had something that I already had in my collection, the Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream ($10, “purse size”). I have loved this for months and months, and am happy to have another, in a convenient size! This moisturizes the skin extremely well, and also has an incredible scent. It’s sweet. It’s tropical. It’s vaguely like popcorn. It’s addictive if nothing else. Once you try it, you’ll understand the hype.
In the box was also two eye products. First is the Modelco Metallic Eyeshadow Trio in St. Tropez ($13, full size). I had already received one of these back in February, but in some red tones. It’s a great formula, and I’m happy to have some more. These colors aren’t special, but they are easy to wear and beautiful. I’ll be tossing this into my travel bag for a quick and easy eye look. The other eye item, also from Modelco is the Eyelites in Granite ($9, full size). This is also a repeat, from May, when it was in the shade St. Bart’s. I don’t love this, unlike the eyeshadow trio. It flakes easily and leaves a trail of glitter wherever it goes. It’s also black, and goes on like cement, so it’s not going to be easily wearable for everyday.
The last item, and thankfully another hit was the Kneipp Mineral Bath Salt in Dream Away ($4, one bath). This was wonderful. I had a lovely hot bath and enjoyed the deep lavendar scent and relaxing feeling. It left my skin soft and I was ready for bed. The one downside is that this turns the bath blue. Not a little blue, but a deep electric blue. I was more than a little concerned about this, but no lasting damage.
Last thing I want to say is that this box had a sponsored item — Lumify Eye Drops from Bausch & Lomb. Some thoughts on this — this is essentially taken a medical product and marketing it for people who frankly do not need it. These are normal eye drops, but they’re saying they’re for beauty purposes now. These shrink the vessels in your eyes to make them seem less red. If you don’t already have red eyes, these won’t make them seem “whiter”.
The overall total value of this box is a little less than $55.40. For a box that costs (full price) $15, that’s not bad, but this is the lowest value I’ve ever gotten in an Allure Box! I thought last month was the lowest at $64-ish, but now…even lower. It’s hard to judge if Allure is worth it when the months can be so up and down. All things in, this is a good value for $15. I am also continually impressed and will get a lot of use out of this box. If you want your own Allure Beauty Box ($10 to start, $15 each month after!) you can sign up here!
