An Unexpected Break

I don’t talk a lot about creative burnout here, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen to me as it happens to so many other people who take on creating. And I was (am) burnt out. I try to hide it. It happens occasionally, and is easy to cover up. Go ahead and write five or six blog posts on “good days” to make up for the bad days that I know will come eventually. This time it wasn’t quite as easy.

I started this blog 7 years ago, and it has been a really big roller coaster of a time. It’s had ups and downs, theme changes, blog changes. It’s been wonderful to have a place that I have been able to shape and grow as I’ve needed it to move and grow along with me. This has been a big year of change for me, and it makes the most sense that this is also a time for things to change.

I hit the burnout wall hard around Thanksgiving and just needed to step away. I shut down my computer and let it sit for six weeks. It felt great. But, like most vacations, it becomes easy enough to know when it’s time to go home. And it’s time.

I’m feeling better. The ideas are spilling out like water. I’m feeling new, and refreshed. I’m typing this on December 31st, and I see the posts I have scheduled…January, February, and beyond. It’s a better feeling than I’ve had in a while.

I’ll see you tomorrow…and hopefully for a while after that.
