Beauty Trends I'm Leaving in 2019

Welcome to 2020. It’s a cool year. It has perfect vision. It’s a fresh beautiful start. I’ve been a beauty enthusiast for years and years, and I’ve seen some trends come and go. There are a lot of trends that I’ve hopped on but now look back with a puzzled “what the fuck” look towards. Let’s talk about some trends that I loved, but think should stay behind in 2019, at least for me.

Matte makeup

I have never looked good in highly matte foundations and lipsticks. I wear them, don’t get me wrong. Because they are so fashionable! I own more matte liquid lipsticks than I’d care to recall. I love them for their longevity, but not for the weird butthole-lips look that I inevitably get after a day of wear. Same deal with the matte foundations. My skin is dry to start with, so they’ll look amazing for a few hours, then become a dry and crusty mess. I think it’s time to leave this behind and embrace healthy-skin ingredients and glowier, more natural coverage that looks like skin.

High-waste Skincare & Beauty

This year is the year that I am done with high-waste beauty items. I’m not the kind of person who is going to jump 100% into a zero-waste lifestyle, but it’s not hard to make some beauty swaps. I am done with makeup wipes, cotton pads, Q-tips…etc. Those were easy for me to replace. Slightly harder? Cutting down on my single-use things, like masks. If I’m going to use sheet masks, I’m also going to be more careful about looking for biodegradable materials. I’ll also be checking for products with less or limited packaging this year. And of course, buying less and using the things I have more.

Heavy Brows

I like a thick brow, but not a heavy brow. Does that make sense? I suppose what I’m leaving behind is unrealistic brows. You know what I mean….carved out, overly pomaded to high heaven. This year, I’m more about that natural look to my brows, and I’ll be leaving that dipbrow behind.

Extreme Highlight

I know you can see a theme here. The dripping in gold look is just not doable for everyday life. It doesn’t look good, highlights my texture like nobody’s business and is just overall not cute. This year is going to be more about that lit-from-within look.

Glitter

Glitter is bad for the environment. I said it. Things like glitter masks, and lipsticks, just aren’t good. The glitter isn’t in there for any real reason and is super uncomfortable. If the package says glitter, it’s staying on the shelf.

What trends are you leaving behind this year?
