Drugstore Brow Routine

When it comes to eyebrow, we know that Anastasia Beverly Hills is the gold standard. There is no unseating her and her pomade. The bad news is that it’s going to rip a giant hole in your budget. Yes it lasts a long time, but it can be hard to justify spending $$$ on Instagram brows sometimes.

Presenting my everyday brow routine which costs, wait for it, a whopping $5.99. Compare that to the ABH Brow Wiz, at $21, or the ABH Dipbrow…at $18…and you can see why I prefer putting together a flawless brow at the drugstore.

The first thing that needs to happen is getting the brow shaped. I am the worst at shaping my own brows, so I do get them done at a salon. I go to Blinc Beauty Bar, in Billings, MT. Below are my before and after from three months of zero brow maintenance to after a quick wax. I really let them go. I didn’t pluck. I didn’t wax. This is what that looks like.

When I’m on top of things, I have them professionally shaped every eight or ten weeks, and I pluck the errant hairs myself in between then. Obviously I was less on top of things.

Now that we’ve handled that, I go in with my ELF brow kit in brunette. I start with an angled brush (Real Techniques Angled Brush) and put the wax in using short, even strokes upward. This builds the brow up, and also darkens it a little bit. I brush this through using my Sephora Brow Brush to make it look a little more natural.

I follow this up with the powder. I use the same RT brush, and fill my brows in. The color of the powder is ashier, and I like the way that it balances out the color of the darker wax.

Once I have filled in, I find that my brows are looking less natural than I would like. If you like that look, power to you. I like mine to look a little more unkempt. To accomplish this, I’m going in with the totally underrated Essence Make Me Brow. It’s 100% a dupe for Benefit’s Gimme Brow, down to the tiny brush. Downside, it comes in two colors: blonde or brown. I brush it through and mess up the brows a little bit, especially at the front.

Sometimes I’ll carve out with concealer as well, like I did today. Lately I have been using the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in Light. I didn’t include that in the $6 budget because it’s for my whole face, not just brows. It’s also a drugstore price point too though.

That’s it! Perfect brows for a fraction of the price. No shade to ABH. I love everything they do, but I hope that this works for you when you can’t splurge just now.
