Last Minute DIY Halloween Costume

It’s the day before Halloween. You still don’t have a costume. This year I had decided that I wouldn’t be buying anything for Halloween. No $60 costume that doesn’t fit right and just sucks. No trips to those awful pop-up stores. None of it.

I wanted something I could make out of things from my closet that I already had. At the risk of sounding very, very basic…embrace the deer.

I pulled out some brown and tan clothes from my closet, and set to work on the makeup look. Again, nothing that I didn’t already own. Everything is also totally drugstore.

On my face:

  • Maybelline Better Skin Foundation
  • Maybelline Fit Me Concealer
  • Covergirl Single Eyeshadow in Starlight (that’s white) and Onyx (black)
  • NYC Sunny Bronzer
  • Rimmel Scandaleyes Eyeliner and White
  • Rimmel Scandaleyes Jumbo Eyeliner in Black
  • Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk
  • Elf Gel Eyeliner in Espresso
  • ColourPop Ultra Matte in Tulle
  • Covergirl Supersizer Mascara

First, I did my foundation and concealed any blemishes. Then comes the good stuff. I applied the bronzer in my eye crease. I also used the white eyeshadow to highlight the center of my eye lid. After that was done, I did my eyeliner. I just freehanded it, drawing a dot on the side of my nose that I wanted it to extend to, and then cleaning up with concealer. To make it look neater, I topped it with some lightly blended black eyeshadow. I popped some white eyeliner on my waterline to make my eyes look bigger.

Using an angled brush, I contoured my nose, and then blended the crap out of it to make it look less severe. I also contoured my cheeks and the periphery of my face, again, blending like crazy. I then used the white eyeshadow to highlight my face, on my cheeks, nose, chin, and Cupid’s bow.

After that, I added the dots by using my Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil, pressing straight to face and twisting to leave a circle. I also drew on my nose and filled it in using the gel eyeliner.

Finally, for lips, I covered my bottom lip in concealer to make it vanish. I applied liquid lipstick to my top lip. It wasn’t quite dark enough, so I powdered it with the bronzer to make it browner.

The whole look took about 10 minutes, and I didn’t spend anything. I also tied my hair up into two buns to look like ears. I also think baby buns with the rest of your hair down would look awesome.

Happy Halloween, procrastinators!
