Modcloth Stylish Surprise - Spring 2017

Modcloth is one of my favorite places to buy clothes. I lovelovelove the hipster-librarian thing that they are laying down. At the end of the winter season, and then again at the end of the summer season, they do the Stylish Surprise. Pay some money (not a lot of money…we’ll get into that) and then you get a clothing item in your size. You don’t get to pick what it is, and no take-backsies. Because of this, it’s super hit-and-miss.

This time, I decided to get one dress ($20), and one pair of shoes ($10). Last time I did this, I got a dress that I did not want, but I was able to sell it for full retail price, so I figured I would give it a shot.

This time I am…not sure how to feel. I received this AS by Ann Smith dress. It’s something that would be at home in the 70s, probably. It has a lot going on…lace, cutouts, a pussy bow collar, ruffles. It’s just a lot. I think I like it? It looks very on-trend, and like something that a hipster princess would want. I need to think about a little more. I’ve had some trouble finding the retail value, but it’s somewhere from $34.99-$54.99.

My pair of shoes were from a brand called Qupid. These retail for $49.99, and are again very trend-forward. I like that they’re a neutral color and I like that they have the pomp oms. I don’t like that they are super tall. They’re very hard to walk in. I’ll need to think about these too.

There are three other categories that I didn’t buy, which are apparel items ($15), apartment (or housewares, for $10), and accessories ($5).

Overall, not a miss, but definitely a total surprise.

Did you get a stylish surprise? What do you think of this one?.i/;o"|0]+
