Iceland Travel Album
Longer ago than I’d care to admit, we went on a whirlwind three-day adventure in Iceland, and I didn’t share a single photo. Not any! It was an unusual set of circumstances where we ended up moving the day after we came home, and I started a new job two days after that, so it just never happened. It was a fantastic trip, and I feel like it deserves it’s moment.
We spent the majority of our trip in Reykjavik, due to our compressed timeframe, but had some short trips out to see some beautiful Icelandic horses, and to enjoy some of the natural wonders. Some notes about Iceland, that I mostly wish I had known before.
It was hella expensive.
Being in Iceland for three days cost more than a week in Budapest at a luxury hotel. It was common for us to spend $30+ on a “cheap” dinner, and beers were easily $10-15. We had expected it to be pricey, but it was more expensive than we were even anticipating. I recommend stopping by a grocery store and picking up a few staples to save a little money.
The sun staying up all day (and night) is a problem.
We were in Iceland in early July. The sun was up for 22-ish hours a day while we were there. And that remaining two hours? It was certainly nto dark. The sky was still bright, suspended in twilight for that whole time. It really messed with our already jet-lagged schedule to then have no darkness.
Everyone is friendly, and speaks perfect English.
In terms of language barrier, in Iceland, there isn’t one. Everyone speaks English, Danish, Icelandic, and often German or French. Many signs were also translated into several other languages to accommodate tourists!
There is no need to carry cash, but the cash is pretty.
I dropped a photo of the cash down below, but there’s no need to exchange any of your hard-earned cash, because cards are accepted everywhere. From little mom-and-pop stores to tourist companies, everyone accepted cards.
Happy travels everyone and check out my instagram for more adventures. Interested in more travel albums? Check out our trip to Calgary and Banff here.
