Wearing my Hair Like a Crown

If you've been a follower for a while, you know that I have a love-hate relationship with my hair. I have a 2B wave that I've been nurturing off and on for my entire life. I've done the whole gamut from 80s-style frizz to crunchy hair spray curls to soft waves. That whole time...I've never been happy.

This month changes that. I am determined to make this the year of wearing my hair like a crown. In honor of celebration month, I'm doing just that. Today, I wanted to talk about how I got to this place.

Three years ago, I cut my hair into straight-across bangs that I convinced myself that I loved. Did I love them? No, my boyfriend did. Well, my ex-boyfriend. He loved how they looked, but that relationship is long-over. But the bangs stayed! Mostly because they were so hard to grow out, I just kept them. I was never super happy about my hair, and I didn't connect that it was the bangs.

Last week, I met with a new hairstylist. I told her about my hair frustrations, and how I hadn't really ever been happy. Like a champ, she had some suggestions, and I just let her do it.

So, here I sit. My hair is lighter, my bangs are growing out. It feels healthier and more flattering. It's the crown that I wanted.

A few months ago, my nails were trash. They were raggedy and broke all the time. I dedicated more time to seeing a manicurist nearly religiously, and it made a huge difference. I think that's the difference with my hair. I found a stylist who knew what I wanted and was able to make it happen.

This month, I encourage you to wear your hair like a crown. Think about your hair as your best accessory, not a hassle or an afterthought, and make it part of you. If you're ready to take the plunge, but need the help of a stylist, I have some tips on choosing one in this post here!
