Winter 2018 FabFitFun Unboxing & Review

One of the subscription boxes that I love more than any other is my FabFitFun. It comes only once a quarter, (check out this past summer’s box!) so I feel like they hit it out of the park every time. This month I received the winter edition, and I am excited to say that it was awesome as always. Here's what was inside.

What Everyone Gets

There are a few items that no one gets any kind of choice about. The first is the Mark & Graham Colorblock Throw ($49). Annual members (like me!) got the choice between two colors – Gray/Ivory or Natural/Ivory. I went with Natural, a gray-tone brown, rather than Ivory because I imagined my beloved baby dog jumping up on it with her muddy winter paws. So, brown it is. I know, dogs don’t go on the furniture…except that she does, always. It’s a lightweight blanket, so I think it will work year-round too!

The next item that everyone received was the Thrive Causemetics Brilliant Eye Brightener in Stella ($24). I was pretty confused about what this was. I also had some concerns about Thrive, which is the name of a well-known pyramid scheme. Turns out Thrive Causemetics is totally unrelated, so that was good news. To use this, it goes on the inner corner of the eyes. I like it. It’s a silky consistency and a very flattering color, but I don’t think I need this. I usually use eyeshadow or a highlighter that I’m already using, so having a separate product just to highlight my eyes was a little extra, even for me.

The other two items that all subscribers received were both skincare. Ahava Hydration Cream Mask ($33) comes from one of my favorite skincare brands and provides great hydration. I love that I can throw this on overnight and wake up with bouncy, hydrated skin. The other item is the Blaq Hydrogel Mask with Hyaluronic Acid ($29). These are little black eye masks that you’re supposed to wear from ten minutes or so, and then peel off. I don’t have a ton of issues with my undereyes, besides a little bit of creasing. This did amp up the hydration, but I don’t have puffy or swollen eyes, which is what this is supposed to fix. Probably will be passing these on.

Choices for All Members

In every box, there’s also some items that every subscriber gets to choose. The first of these was either choosing a glove and headband set from Bearpaw ($45), or the Moroccan Gold Series Treatment Mask ($49). $49. Jesus. I’ll just say it. That’s a shit ton of money for a hair mask, considering the size of the jar. I also saw how argan oil is made when I was in Morocco and can’t spend that much on it after that. Buuuuttt….I love it. Damn it. It gives me the sleekest, shiniest hair I’ve ever had. I seriously feel like I am walking out of the salon every time. But $49. That’s never going to happen for me. If you have fifty bucks burning a hole in your pocket, this is an amazing hair mask.

Keeping on the absurdly pricey hair trend, I also chose the Oribe Gold Lust Dry Shampoo ($44). The idea of spending $44 on a dry shampoo when I’m feeling like a dirty mess and running late for work makes me feel almost ill. Like the Moroccan Gold mask, this is also fantastic. It’s so great. It makes my hair look salon-perfect, and the perfect amount of texture and volume. I picked this over an H Halston Jewelry Portfolio ($48) and a Lele Sadoughi Necklace ($49).

The last choice that everyone got to make was between Richer Poorer Reina Socks ($24), a Sherrie Matthews Jade Roller (so trendy and $45) or the Pur Be Your Selfie Palette ($36). I went with the one I knew I would use, being picky about socks, and did the palette. It’s a great size for travel. I took it with us on a weekend trip and was delighted with how many looks I could create out of it. The shadows are rich and pigmented, and I like them a lot.

Choices for Annual Members

If you’re a “select” (annual subscription) member, you get to choose even more things! If you’re not, one just gets sent to you. The first thing I chose was the Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Meringue ($26). I love the Amuse Bouche lipsticks and went to the Bite Beauty Lip Lab a couple years ago, so I’m a fan. I like the way it looks, as a light neutral pink, and I think it’s wearable all year for me. If you were a darker skin tone, I do think that it’s light, so it won’t be quite as natural and nice. The other choices were workout floor sliders ($18) or a 4-piece coaster set ($18).

The final item in the box was the Anthropologie x Mer-Sea & Co Sea Whip Body Cream ($24). It’s a standard body butter. It’s not thin like lotion but comes out of the squeeze tube easily. I like the light coconut scent and it’s made my scaly winter skin a lot better. The other choice was a set of essential oils. We don’t use those, so it was an easy pass ($31).

That's my whole box! The total retail value of my box was $314, and I didn’t have the most expensive choices. This was really great, and full of things that I am actively using and happy with, If you're interested, you can pick one up here. The box retails for $49.99 a quarter, and cheaper if you purchase an annual subscription. That link gives me no kickback but will get you $10 off your first box! It also makes a great Christmas gift!
